Very Fine Study
n.t.wright has written a very fine study of Romans, Paul's challenging letter. By his translating from the Greek many of the passages he better explains how the letter unfolds Paul's writing. Very readable work.

Greatly insightful!
An exegetical master piece & clearly explained. Dr. Wright brought together the Old Testament exodus of Israel & her failed vocation, then showing how the New Testament fulfilled this vocation for both the nation of Israel & the gentile nations for all eternity with the Messiah King Jesus, the Son of God & Son of Man.

Highly interesting, not fully engaging
As with all of N.T. Wright’s works I’ve read, the scholarship and exegetical work of Into The Heart of Romans were impressive. And as a member of the clergy, I so appreciated the sustained cohesion and revelation of Paul’s argument and of Wright’s insight into our place of intercession and cooperation with God’s unfolding kingdom. But my sense is that to a general, though intelligent and reflective readership, it lacked an engaging quality. Like excessive overpacking for a walking trip in the Cotswolds, the enjoyment and splendor of the “scenery” was thwarted by excessive theological “baggage” that could have been reduced without sacrificing the essentials. Hence the four stars rather than five.

Definitively a deep dive into Romans
Used this as a reference in a Bible study! Great insight and very thorough in clarifying the writings of Paul from a first century point of view! Definitely two thumbs up!!

The Heart of Romans Renews My Heart for God
Tom Wright's works are no easy read for a layman like me, but if one can really spend time reading carefully on what he is trying to say, as I did, it'll be a very fruitful and perhaps even life-changing theological experience to our mind. Two things for me to say: Firstly, from a Malaysian's perspective on the churches' spiritual state, Wright's work should be a must-read esp. in relation to (from my observation) many Christians' misread/misinterpretation/misunderstanding on key teachings in the book of Romans. Many espoused the thought that "I am saved so I am going to heaven and hence why do I have to suffer the mess of my country and the world". In fact, including myself, we have been reading Romans "narcissistically" and failed to apply it in the corporate setting.Second, since I lost my wife to cancer three years ago, I can say that my heart is "dormant" in my relationship with God. I happened to pickup Wright's current work (I have always enjoy his works in the past) and decided to read again. In short, his exegesis of Romans 8: how to read it, the key themes of vocation, servanthood suffering, groaning of creation and us, Messianic love etc. gave me fresh perspectives on my current state and my own experience in the past few years. To this, I thank God for Wright's work.

You Won't Find This in Your Local Bible Study
Some genuine nuggets of insight in this work by Wright. Worthy of rereading and study. Proof that getting behind the meaning of the original language can open a new world of understanding for the readers of the Bible.

Tom Wright at his best
concentrating on Romans 8, but Wright brilliantly brings into the conversation much about the Pauline corpus and life in the Greco-Roman world of the 1st century. A super book for theological students or Christian ministers, that will make exposition of the Pauline epistles more interesting for his/her congregation. Its full of surprises and twists that will help bring the Bible alive. God Bless you Tom.
