Review: Yahoo! - This is a perennial classic that follows the travels of Lemuel Gulliver through various distorted land such as Lilliput and Brobdignag and finally to the land of the Houyhnhms and Yahoos. Written from a stance of unwavering confidence in the superiority of the Englishman, this is slowly eroded through his interaction with other (albeit fictional) societies, and ends his days unable to function within his own society. A biting and witty satire of the 18th century and well worth reading. Review: what a nutter! used for lit assignment - good book, fast delivery, good price. what an absolute nutter mr. swift is ey? same as gulliver lol. used for a level literary studies. recommend the York notes to go with it - you will probably need them if you haven't read this before, so much hidden political agenda

Swift - a wit of Brobdingnagian proportions
The work itself fully deserves five stars. Swift combines a jaunty and engrossing fantasy novel with biting satire and parody. Sure, some things may at first go over the modern reader's head (the 1660 Act of Indemnity anyone...?) but much of the book's description of human nature remains unsettlingly relevant. Whether approached as a storybook or as a piece of socio-political commentary, this is a rewarding read. Unfortunately, if you intend to delve into this latter aspect of the book this (Wordsworth Classics) edition lets it down. The notes, while adequate, are at the back, requiring you to constantly flick distractedly between pages. I was also disappointed by the introduction, which gives only a very brief account of the political context, no account of the book's aftermath, and introduces a plethora of sophisticated readings while giving them only the most superficial explanation. Buy the book, just not this edition!

Gulliver's Travels
I was very pleased to be able to obtain this classic book at a very reasonable price. Delivery time was also very good. It is not an easy book to read as quite a lot is in old type English and sometimes it is difficult to understand the author's meaning(s)

The tv film version of Gulliver with Ted Danson was excellent in fact it was better than the book so ...
Written a long time ago I cannot now in this day and age get on with its style of often monotonous writing. Its Not a children's story its a political satire and as such 99% of the true meaning is lost (shame). Its more of a description of what happened to Gulliver rather than a well written story. I couldn't be bothered to finish it as I need more entertainment in my reading. The tv film version of Gulliver with Ted Danson was excellent in fact it was better than the book so I was disappointed with the book itself.
