Ideal Security Ladder-Aide LA1 for Type 2 Ladders, The Safe and Easy Way to Work on Stairs

I love simple products that perform a unique function, and this is definitely that kind of product. Super sturdy, adjusts to a variety of different riser/tread sizes, and is absolutely perfect for setting up a ladder on stairs. Might be a little on the pricey side, but well worth it considering other options might only be a more elaborate system such as scaffolding etc. Highly recommended.

I was reluctant to try this, figuring it was likely unstable and unsafe. But, between its weight/bulk and the rubber pads on the bottom, it proved sturdy and safe. I used it in conjunction with a telescoping ladder to paint a two-story stairway and the job was 10 times easier. It also came in handy when hanging pictures in the stairway.

This is an impressively-made product that can be easily stored and easily set up. I could not have completed a recent project (in a stairwell) without it. My only quibble is about the width of the "platform" on which the legs of the ladder sit. The manufacturer states this width accurately. I knew that I would be using a Werner 16-ft compact (3 section) extension ladder with the Ladder-Aide. I also knew that the swiveling feet on that Werner ladder (with triangular "spikes" at one end of each foot, for outdoor use) would make the feet too long to fit onto the Ladder-Aide. So I removed those feet from the Werner ladder and put customized non-slip end caps at the bottom end of each leg or rail. The Ladder-Aide worked great.

saved me a fortune from hiring a professional painter or having to set up scaffolding. This is a GREAT product. I was able to paint several hallways with high ceilings on my own. I felt safe and had no issues at all. Very happy

I'm adding on to Thomas Simmons' detailed review.My picture shows that even though the manufacturer says the max foot length is 4", it will take 4.75". Mr. Simmons discusses in detail the issue of using a ladder whose base width is greater than 19" but around 23". If you are using this product by yourself, your ladder's base width must be 19" or less without modifying this product. But since my wife and I were working together, we used a ladder whose base width was 22.5". This means one foot was on the narrow metal piece between the end and the gap. This would be too dangerous unless one person is carefully holding that foot of the ladder in place so it does not slip off the end or into the gap. Working together we had no problems at all.

It’s great, make sure you check your ladders feet for size to fit into the channel. I am a window treatment installer which puts me on ladders over stairs, like the 1/8” incremental leveling. I added a small bubble level to set up quickly. It’s compact when in storage.

This is a beautifully designed and secure staircase leveler. But it is not designed for staircases that curve, or for shorter (6-foot) ladders at the top of curving staircases.. And the base is the wrong length, overall--it pencils out at about 19 1/2 inches when it needs to be 23 inches. It's wrong. I can adapt it. But the basic design is correct.Actually, because this is important, let me explain it a little better. The base (where the feet of the ladder rest) already IS 23" long, but as you can see from the illustration the supporting post of the far end sticks up through the base of the ladder at about 19 1/2", and there's a warning sign on the base NOT to rest one foot of the latter on the outside 3 inches. All the manufacturers would have to do would be to weld a small vertical plate onto the outside end of the base plate, to prevent any possible slipping of the latter, and the product would be ideal. Any extra weight on the outside of the supporting post does not actually significantly change the fulcrum of the base or the balance of the latter. A simple fix to raise this product from three stars to five.

Used this to paint 2 high stairwells and it worked absolutely perfect. Adjusted to correct height of stair and that was it. It's nice knowing its locked secure when your 15ft in the air over stairs. I use Ohuhu telescoping ladder as well. Good combo or just Ladder Aide. Recommended

This product it's a great quality and a good product to have a home.if you using it for the upstairs. Very stir.

We used this ladder-aide together with multi-ladder to install skylight window treatments above the stair cases. Best thing is the tool take up very little space and easy to carry around.

I purchased this ladder aid for my painting business. I find the construction and design to perform as it was designed to do. Nice finishing/detail - I am very pleased.One note of disappointment: the locking pin used to adjust height and lock in place, has a flaw which prevents me from inserting the pin as it should be. I may contact the seller to ask for another pin. If they don’t supply me with one, I will keep this unit since it still performs sufficiently.I would also add that it would be a nice addition if the unit had a small sight level built into the body of the unit for quick leveling on stair treads.
