Why I have come to despise Echo Show Products
Aside from the fact that for me speech recognition is poor, resulting in having to often repeat myself, The primary issue is the constant streaming of marketing material I have yet to find a way to limit it. All I ever wanted was a smart alarm clock with speech recognition with which I could also control my smarthome with Alexa via my connected z-wave hub, occasionally play some music from my personal library, and occasionally show me appointments, news, and recipes. What I got was a miniature billboard constreaming me marketing and ads only occasionally 'resting' to show me an alarm clock screen. I never dreamed or intended to pay for or have a device in my home that would constantly pepper me with ads. It is most certainly not something mentioned in the specs or marketing on their website. Luckily I found a way to limit it which is to give the command "Alexa, Screen Off. " Please note that this works for all Echo's with screens. I find this marketing behavior to be predatory and invasive. Personally if this is the intention of Echo's with screens, Amazon should be paying me to have one in my home.My advice, while an Echo can be an extremely useful device to have, I suggest getting one without a screen such as an Echo Dot unless you enjoy being constantly nagged by a device constantly trying to get you to spend money.
