First the pinnate leaves fold up then the stalks do sink. The plant straightens up again 20 minutes later. It grows to a height of about 40 to 60 cm within our regions, produces tender, violet-pink coloured flowers after 4 months and lasts about 3 years when cultivated as a pot plant.Origin: The Sensitive Plant is indigenous to Brasilia as well as to Africa.Propagation: Seeds can be started indoors any time throughout the year. Let the seeds soak in water at room temperature overnight and sow them on moist seed starting soil. Cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. Germination often follows after 1 week already.Place / Light: The Sensitive Plant prefers bright places and can be moved in a sheltered location outdoors during summer.Care: The young seeds are very sensitive to draught. Because of its fine roots you should wait about 6 weeks before repotting. Water regularly and fertilize the plant every 3 weeks from April to September. You may well grow 3 to 4 plants in one pot.Winter period: The Sensitive Plant is not an annual plant as it is often said. The easiest way to guarantee a safe overwintering would be to prune the plant to a height of 15 to 20 cm.
