Q: What shower filter is used with this shower head?

There is a white "sand" filter in the part that attaches to the water pipe. Some think it's the flow restrictor but it should never be permanently removed. It unscrews for cleaning, if needed. Small debris in the water - from aging water mains or an aging water heater - can clog up the shower head if it is. Under it is the flow restrictor which can be permanently removed - in this model, it's red with a small black O-ring.

Q: Is the hose flexible enough? some are stiff and hit the wall or self when moving it around. also, can anyone give comparison on 2.0 and 2.5 gpm.

The hose is quite flexible. I have never had any problems with it stiffening like some others and becoming difficult to use until you figure out what went wrong. It never causes a problem. They manage to squeeze it into a small package, so it must be very flexible. The difference between 2.0 and 2.5 is not that much. The first thing you need to know is how much water is coming through the pipe. These gpm numbers are limits to save water. Many water supplies are under 2 gpm so the limits aren't even reached. One way to find out what your water pressure is to time how long it takes for your toilet to refill after you flush it (if you know how much water it uses per flush).

Q: does this just screw onto the existing shower in my tub or do I need to have someone install it?

Screws directly onto the shower pipe coming out of the wall. I used plumbers tape although instructions read that the tape is un- necessary. Make sure you hand tighten the different connecting points on the device (one example is where the hose enters the shower head. That hose connection may not be completely tight. If not completely tight that connection may drip). Easy and simple to install. 5-10 minutes, tops. No need for a installer.

Q: Does the shower head have a shut off on it?

Hello Geneva - The XRO-763 does have a water saving trickle setting. It noticeably reduces the flow of water, but does not shut it of completely. Completely shutting off or restricting flow rate to less than .5 GPM at the shower head can allow scalding water to briefly burst out of the shower when the flow rate is returned to full flow mode. This is due to the hot water rising to the top in the shower wall pipe. Plumbing regulations prohibit the option for allowing the shower head to completely restrict the flow of water.
