My daughter is obsessed with Disney Princesses (thanks Walt >< )Anywho, this doll was a Christmas present this year, and it's pretty neat. Once you install the batteries, she has two little metal connectors on her stomach that when you touch she paddles her tail. (for when you want to play with it out of the water)In the water, the instructions tell you to put her face down in the water. She starts paddling herself. Now be aware, I guess it's on a timer, because after a few minutes, Ariel stopped paddling and My bathing 3 year old was crying because her doll was lying face down dead in the tub. Thankfully after a few minutes the doll began its paddling motion once more and my daughter's bath time was saved.)If you have a daughter (or an unhealthy obsession with self swimming mermaid dolls) buy this toy.

Can’t beat it for the price!
Cute little Ariel doll, swims in the water without a problem. Only bad thing that i have to say is that her hair is not the greatest - i had a little bit of it fall out the first day and there’s a tiny bald spot on the back of her head. But you can cover it with the hair from the front. You really can’t beat it for the price. I’d buy it again!

I was not sure this mermaid would live up to its ads. It definitely does swim in the tub alone. My daughter loves it so much

It does swim but...
We had no trouble with installing the batteries and the doll worked right away. However, parents, be warned. It is a little creepy because it just twitches the tail, so it looks more like she's having a seizure than swimming gracefully through the water. But the 5 year old is delighted by a real swimming Ariel so...

Worked for me
I had read reviews about her not swimming, so I wasn't expecting a lot, but she does swim! She works great, and my daughter loves her, but ironically, is terrified of her swimming by herself.

My 3 year old asked for a swimming mermaid Barbie for Christmas and she absolutely loves this doll. It works great in the water

You would think that first priority for making a water toy would be to make it waterproof!
The concept of the toy is great and my daughter loved it while it lasted. She loved the way the tail moved, instead of it being a propeller. Even with all the negative reviews I went ahead and purchased it and even sealed the battery compartment with silicone before its first use. Even with all that, water still got in. It must have been through the tail because I had to cut through all the silicone to open it up and change batteries. We got about 2 weeks out of it before it totally died. We got another one and decided to leave the battery cover as is and just dry it out after each use, but it didn't last more than 30 min on its first use before it went totally dead. Now I have two motionless dolls which my girls still play with, so at least there is that.

I did not know what to expect, but it works quite well. It swims by itself for 45 seconds, you need to get the doll out, wipe the sensors and she is good to go again. My daughters LOVE it! Very nice gift!
