Learn Windsurfing in a Weekend (Learn in a Weekend)

Beautifully Presented and still Essential despite Dated Apparel (1992)
Although nearly thirty years old (published in 1992) with dated windsurfing apparel on the models, I still like this handy little hardcover for it's concise summaries and abundant pictures and illustrations. I have my windsurfing students buy a copy for easy reference. "Learn Windsurfing in a Weekend"--haha-not likely--but at least you'll have all you need to know to be 'doing' it by the end of the summer. 'Learning' and 'doing' are two different things. Fair winds to ya'! :D

Very Helpful Book, Just Be Sure to Use the Right Board
I purchased this book because I bought a windsurfing board at a garage sale and I wanted to learn how to windsurf. The book is very detailed and shows the basics on how to windsurf. There are a lot of pictures and diagrams throughout the book which are a valuable learning aid. The only tip I have to make your first windsurfing experience a good one is to make sure you are using a windsurfing board with a high volume. I was using a competition style board which caused me to lose my balance a lot. Eventually I just used a friends board (which was of larger volume) and I caught on quickly using this book.

Great book, quick but instructive.
Enjoyed the book for a brief introduction to something new. I haven't taken any courses in windsurfing, but have been able to stand and move around on the board before using this book. I this book has gotten me much more comfortable with windsurfing and now classes will help me progress beyond it.

Learn Windsurfing in a Weekend
This book follows the premise that a picture is worth 1000 words and it succeeds. All the basics and more are covered in well presented pictures accompanied by diagrams, and step by step graphic progressions. Basic technique, equipment, safety, etc. are covered, leading the user up to an intermediate level of windsurfing. The only better things would be an instructional video or private instruction. Especialy at the price, this book is a real "keeper" in your sailing library. I teach windsurfing and every student that has bought the book, has continued to use it and enjoy it.

Good for beginners.
I read this book just before taking a windsurfing class and it was pretty accurate compared to what the instructors taught. I'd recommend it to someone just starting out.

Reference this book a lot!
Bought this book as a novice windsurfer along with some videos. I've made consider skill progress but still use this book as a reference. Nicely written and illustrated.

Great book for those just starting out.
I am a self taught windsurfer and this was the book that basically taught me everything when I started back in 1996. Despite it being a bit dated, it's still a very useful book for those that are just starting out.

A Picture is worth a thousand words!
This is an excellent book for a beginner windsurfer. It is very concise and it covers a lot in a small number of pages. This book has about 2 pictures per page. The pictures are really useful to understand the concepts and the movements. But do not expect to be an expert windsurfer in a weekend.Windsurfing is just like riding a bike, or driving a car. The theory is relatively simple, you can understand it quickly, but it usually takes some time for you to do the "right things" automatically. The best way to learn to windsurf is to attend a lesson at a windsurfing school. A lesson is absolutely the best investmente for a beginner windsurfer. But reading this book is definitely helpful. It will get you used to the terminology and basic theory and it will also help you know what to expect in your lesson.Of all windsurfing books that I have seen this one has by far the best pictures and illustrations.
