What a Relief
I bought this kit to test an old 40-year carpet and its adhesive on my back porch for lead. I had already tested for asbestos with an asbestos test kit. This lead kit was very inexpensive, quick and easy to use and since I had 10test tips, I double checked my results. What a relief. Now I know that I can safely remove this old carpet! Thanks, seller!

Easy and quick to use.
Our kids ate the poisoned lead apple sauce from so we used this to rule out that lead was in our home. Super easy to use, just snap pink end and swab. Gave us peace of mind that our house was lead free.

Works well, some people might find it difficult to use
This product works well and good sensitivity to the presence of lead (I have no quantitative sensitivity (ppm) data). Some people might have some difficulty to use it. The pink end of the tip must break off to release the Acetic Acid + Distilled water buffer solution into the white end of the swab. The break point is about two thirds the way down from the top of the pink end. When the Sodium Rhodizonate is activated at the proper ph level it turns Yellow to a White-Yellow color (see picture). When it comes in contact with Lead the solution turns red to purple color depending on the concentration of Lead. This test is a well known and common forensic test for lead used in crime scene investigations.

Does not work on dishes!
I'm giving 4 stars because it's my fault that I didn't read the description close enough. I glanced through the photos provided and the last one lists "where lead CAN be found in your home", however this test is only for painted wood, metal, vinyl, plastic, drywall, and plaster. I found this out because I intentionally tested my "spice of life" corning ware dish which i know has lead and it came back negative. Otherwise, this product seems very easy to use on the intended surfaces and has quick results. I only gave 4 stars instead of 5 since I have no applicable surfaces to try this product on and cannot verify its efficacy.

I think it worked. Just not as expected.
My picture, taken with my cheap phone, doesn't give the best picture but it's a representation of the spots. The spots are pink.So I wiped some utensils I bought from one of the many Chinese sites out there that sell bargain stuff. When I wiped them the swab didn't changed. However, a minute later the liquid left on the items I tested turned pink and red, ( The swabs are very wet) the swabs themselves turned white as all the liquid drained out of them. It was strange but I'm thinking they worked just not the way they're intended to. And not everything tested bad.

They don't detect lead
I used these on my apartment doors to see if there was lead - none was detected. Then a professional came and found lead on all the doors. These sticks are also hard to snap - it's best to pull off the pink tip (which is pointless) and then you can see the snap line in the plastic, and bend it with pliers.

Test for lrad in your metal water bottles.
I read that the popular Stanley metal drinking cups tested positive for lead so I bought this inexpensive solution to test the HydraPeak water bottles I get from TJ Maxx as I use very acidic juice with lemon and vinegar in them which I leave in the bottle all day. Tested clear! Great to know.
