It was nice to see him point the finger at the vermin that gorge on the vast profits to be made from war but it did take him 33 years and his pension before he mentioned it to the world ! Besides which I don't think war is a racket when you are defending your homeland from murderous insurgents as Syria is having to do today. His solutions are in all honesty rather childish and will certainly never be tried on this planet.

I was looking forward to reading this book as I fully expected lots of interesting and relevant content from an old soldier with an illustrious career - imagine my astonishment when I discovered this to be not a book but a short essay which I read in ten minutes ! This ought to be a must read for every politician and military person in America. It also ought to be distributed at every public school in America. War is senseless and leaves us not only wounded and bloody but also desensitized to the pain our nation has imposed on our sisters and brothers around the war. War is A RACKET that leaves the rich richer and the poor in body bags, wounded or impoverished. Smedley Butler is right
