CAP Barbell Rubber Olympic Bumper Plate | Multiple Options/Colors

Recently bought the “PRO” 45lbs plates and these are of high quality for a very low cost. Even at full price ($59 each at time of posting) these are reasonable but for the $38 paid, they are a steal. These are a nice “dead bounce” bumper plate well suited for heavy and dynamic lifting. The economy plates are usually bouncier which makes dynamic lifts a bit more hazardous with the rebound. These arrived nicely packed and good condition. There is an oily residue and smell that is typical of most bumper plates when new.

Great bumper plates, I bought the pair of (2) 55lb plates and loaded them both on my scale, and they are exactly 110lbs for both of them, I was pleasantly surprised, I was expecting a little bit of a discrepancy in weight due to the low price compared to other brands, but lo and behold the weight accuracy is spot on. The finish is smooth and soft, they did come a little oily and smelly of chemical, but I cleaned them with a kitchen napkin and let them air dry all night and that solved the problem. The hole size is 2", just right for my ritfit Olympic barbell, they are 3-5/16" thick. Great buy!

Ok, so everybody knows Cap for making very decent gym related products with very friendly pricing. picked up a set of 15’s. weighing them, they are spot on and are nice quality for home gym use. these get the job done, look good, but cannot be compared to commercial grade and you shouldnt expect them to. this kind of sounds bad but it isn’t, these plates really are great, i just dont think they would hold up to dozens of people using, dropping and abusing them all day every day in a commercial gym setting. they wont be used like that in a home gym. i almost took a star off for one reason. the plates come nicely packaged in a box with foam surrounding the vox corbers and each plate in a plastic bag. when i opened the box i was immediately hit with a strong rubber and oil smell and could see the plates were covered in an oily film through the bag. i wiped them down with paper towels and then a microfiber cloth with windex and they were still a little greasy feeling. this film will eventually evaporate out, but there is quite a noticeable smell in my garage gym. having had cap plates before this film and smell dissapates over the coming days, but i never saw so much of this oil on their plates before. just a bit of inconvenience but in the end the plates function as i would expect them. in the pic i submitted for this review i am using an adapter on the plate to fit my open trap which uses standard 1 inch plates.

I currently own a set of CAP Competition colored plates, which have been excellent and indistinguishable from my Rogue Echo set (within 0.15” thickness). I wanted to add some more 45’s and (at the time of this review) the Pro plates are less than $1/lb. Shipping was fast w/ no damage. The 45’s ship individually and are well packed. Mine had no imperfections and they have a great dead bounce. They have an oily coating that easily wipes off w/ denatured alcohol. For aesthetics, I love the raised lettering these have. It just looks nice and adds a little quality feel over the Economy sets. You can match these Pro plates perfectly to the Competition set, just takes a little time with a permanent white paint pen (see photos). These are now the perfect plates from a function, quality and looks standpoint.

CAP makes pretty good products. They aren’t top tier by any means but they get the job done. I am not even positive which CAP weights this review was for because I have about 350 lbs of various weights between their economy and elite series weights. The economy series is nice. I like the color markings to differentiate weight easily at a glance. I’d say accuracy of weight is hit or miss. Some are spot on but the 45lb weights are actually 46.7 lbs (at least mine are). I have a multiple 45 lbs plates but a single one has developed a bit of a crack in it. I’ve only had it for 5 months so that’s not great. But the other 3 45 lbs plates are all fine. I have 2 15 lb plates and one of them developed a small almost bubble on the side. Though it’s very small and not an issue, but it’s a slight deformation. All the other economy models are fine. As for elites, I only have 2 35 and 2 25 elite models. You can tell it’s virgin rubber versus recycled rubber on the economy. It just feels denser almost. I have no deformities or cracks in the elite models. Price wise you can sometimes get elite for as cheap and in some cases cheaper than the economy so I’d go with elite. HOWEVER, the elite is all black and lacks color to differentiate them easily at a glance. Look. These aren’t Rogue Fitness. But they aren’t $3-5 a lb either. They are just as heavy to lift as other premium brands at a fraction of the cost. They’ll do for the avg lifter and they’re a great buy on a budget.

I am superb pleased with these CAP Olympic rubber bumper plates. They came in very beautiful 🌈 colors. The weight is accurate since I weighted them on my friend's shop professional weighting machine. Accuracy is very important for me in this matter. The grip is Nice and smooth. There are no sharp edges neither the plate, nor the center coupling. Perfect fit for my 30 lbs. CAP 7 ft. Olympic barbell, my CAP 48 in. Z Bar, the perfect fit for the CAP Dumbells set and for my leg extension and leg curl bench. I really love these. And having a Prime Membership helped a lot for the delivery because it was FREE and on other sites they were asking for a lot for the shipping. Amazon is really other thing!

These plates came kind of warped, like a bike tire after hitting a bump too hard, so the plates fit completely come together in some places. I bought 8, hard to saint was just one. It’s all of them. But they to otherwise flawless. Amazing plates. Worked in a gym for years, and have lifted for a long time, these are the best bang for your buck.

I’ll start by saying I’ve ordered the Economy, Economy - Speckled and PRO bumper plates. The 5-star rating is for the PRO plates. PRO - fantastic quality. Little oily out of the box, used Dawn Powerwash and paper towel and washed them down and let them air out for 24 hours. Zero rubber smell. I was shocked. Plates are solid and steel hub is solid and smooth. Economy Speckled - Worst rubber smell ever. Washed them 3 times over, and let them off gas outdoors for 6 weeks!! And guess what? STILL STINKS! They’re still oily to this day and leave a residue on my mats. I go out of my way to avoid these loading the bar. Economy - Also very oily but dried quicker and didn’t smell as bad as the speckled but still stank. They off gassed outdoors for 3 weeks. Rubber quality is not great and they’re not very sturdy. I use them when I have to. Recommendation: Get PRO plates or Competition. Avoid these other junkers here. Wash them once, air them out, and lift.
