Works well once you've figured out how to set it up
I'd previously bought several Shelly BLU buttons to wirelessly control devices and automations using Home Assistant (HA). The buttons connected to my HA server's internal bluetooth receiver but one was some distance away and frequently failed to trigger the required action. I guessed it was on the edge of bluetooth range. Getting the BLU gateway to work took some experimentation - Shelly's documentation is brief at best. Eventually, using a combination of Shelly's excellent Smart Control phone app and Home Assistant's Shelly integration, I got the gateway to work. I plugged it into a USB 5v wall socket adapter located close to my Shelly BLU button to ensure the latter was in bluetooth range. The gateway then relays button actions (single clicks, double clicks, etc) back to Home Assistant over WiFi. A prolonged setup process but worth it - it works really well.

Do not use with Home Assistant
Bricked within an hour of using with Home Assistant. Reset button had no effect. Poor quality item. Replaced with a generic one which has been rock solid

READ ONLY
Not at all clear from the description, but unfortunately this gateway is one-way/read-only - it can proxy BLE advertisements over MQTT, but it cannot send commands back. e.g. it can read sensor data, but not set a temperature set-point, trigger a button-press, etc. If read is all you need (now and ever) then it's a fairly convenient if low-range device. I think that's a pretty niche and limited application though.

La configurazione è semplice e veloce: dopo averlo inserito e collegato al Wi‑Fi il gateway intercetta i segnali Bluetooth dei dispositivi compatibili e li porta sulla rete, così puoi ricevere notifiche, monitorare stati e impostare automazioni dalla app Shelly Smart Control o da sistemi di domotica come Home Assistant tramite MQTT. Inoltre è compatto e discretissimo, consuma pochissima energia e può contribuire anche a migliorare la copertura Wi‑Fi in zone un po’ più lontane, rendendo più stabile la connessione con i dispositivi collegati. This gateway has been rock solid so far. Setup with HA was quick, it paired easily with other Shelly devices, and the connection has been stable. It bridges Bluetooth sensors to Wi-Fi reliably and integrates cleanly with the Shelly app and other smart home platforms. Small, simple, and does exactly what it’s supposed to do.

Das Shelly Blu Gateway in Kombination mit meinem Home Assistant Green ist genau das Puzzlestück, das gefehlt hat. Die Einrichtung ging schnell und reibungslos – direkt in den Bluetooth-Proxy integriert, erkannt, eingebunden, fertig. Kein Frickeln, keine Kompromisse. Besonders genial ist, wie stabil und zuverlässig es Bluetooth-Signale von Geräten wie dem Shelly Blu Button 1 oder BLE-Temperatursensoren weiterleitet. Endlich keine Funklöcher mehr im Haus – der Gateway erweitert die Reichweite deutlich und sorgt dafür, dass alle Geräte auch wirklich dort reagieren, wo sie sollen. Das Design ist schlicht und funktional, die Stromversorgung per USB macht die Platzierung flexibel. Und weil er direkt mit Home Assistant spricht, ist er auch sofort für Automatisierungen nutzbar – ohne Cloud, ohne Umweg. Genau so muss Smart Home sein: lokal, schnell und zuverlässig. Fazit: Wer Home Assistant nutzt und BLE-Geräte integrieren will, kommt am Shelly Blu Gateway kaum vorbei. Klein, effektiv, und absolut seinen Preis wert!
