Camillus 16" American Hickory hatchet

I've only used this once so far unfortunately but it's solid and sharp. Great quality, gets the job done

I'll start by saying the construction of this thing is sturdy. It is put together well, the grain of the handle runs the correct way, the finish on the handle is nice etc. and earned a star in that regard. But the condition the edge came in makes this thing unusable. The bevel is noticeably off-center and the edge can't cut paper. I didn't expect it to be shaving sharp out of the box, but I did expect it to do its job, which it couldn't without an immense amount of effort. I had a faster and easier time batoning through wood with a knife than chopping through it with this axe. The second star is for the quality head cover. No, there's no belt loop, but the leather seems nice and the snap is very tactile and secure. I would not recommend this product unless you enjoy re-profiling blade edges. I'd return it if I hadn't already used it.

For camping and doing medium bushcraft it is absolutely perfect. Can’t wait to use it.

Very nice for the price.

leather sheath is great, even without a belt loop. wooden handle is comfortable and strong, but the bottom doesn’t taper. so it will be slippery when wet and won’t prevent itself from slipping out of your hand. the only real complaint I have is about the ridiculous effort and time it took to sharpen this thing. If you’re not willing to put a lot of time into sharpening, I recommend buying a different hatchet or a sand belt of some kind.
