Do this if you’re already doing your rear main seal.
This is just another small component that you can upgrade inside your LS based 5.3L LM7 to improve the already famous reliability. In its stock form this piece is made from high strength heat resistant molded plastic. It very rarely fails but this new metal piece does slightly increase oil flow, and absolutely eliminates any chance of failure of the plastic piece. I don’t think it’s worth upgrading this piece on its own but rather if you are rebuilding your motor or at the very least replacing the rear main seal. This gives you access to this component which you have to remove by drilling a hole into it, putting a screw into the drill hole, and pulling it out. You can find videos on YouTube of this part and the process of removing it by searching up the term “dogbone” and LS in the same sentence.

This did NOT fit my 2002 5.3 engine. It’s about .02 too big. Close , but not quite. It’s a shame cuz it seems to be made pretty well. I was going to turn it down on the lathe , but just used the old one instead.
