Earlybird Kindergarten Mathematics: Activity Book A (Standards Edition)

Excellent teaching tool
I purchased this activity book & the accompanying text book a few weeks ago. The two books are AWESOME! Well worth the price. The combination of books is like a real school curriculum. It is thorough, detailed & easy to use. The first unit was easy for my son, but the second unit is starting to provide him with a challenge. Yet it is not overwhelming. Looking forward through the book, I believe this will continue to be the case. I will definitely be buying the next level book when we finish this one. (I believe they also sell manipulatives for these books, I am considering purchasing them. Now that I've started using the books, I do think they would be useful. Not necessary, but it would make some things easier.)I do believe that this is a true kindergarten level book. However, I am using this book with my 3 & 1/2 year old. He has a talent for mathematical concepts. I would not recommend this for an average 3 & 1/2 year old. However, if your child can count (not just say 1 - 10, but actually count objects & tell you how many there are), knows his numbers (can visually recognize numbers 1 to 10), can draw straight lines, can listen & follow directions, and can sit still & focus for about 10 minutes at a time. Then I think you can use this book.I do think that you need the textbook. The activity book only provides one or two pages on each topic. The textbook provides many more pages of practice and more information for parents. If you are simply looking to supplement what your child is learning in school, then the activity book alone would be fine. However, if I were only buying one of these books it would be the textbook. The textbook is filled with activities for your child. The textbook has a nice progression from parent/child discussion & concrete manipulation (they provide a small paragraph explaining what to do with your child) to abstract forms of the concept. The activity book has very little explanation, which is fine if you have the textbook, but if you don't it may be confusing. The best thing about these books is that my son LOVES them. After dinner last night he begged my husband to work with him, because "Daddy hasn't done them yet". They did 5 or 6 pages & my son still wanted to do more. My husband and I had to make him stop. I try not to let him work too long b/c I don't want him to get tired & frustrated. We have other "school" books, but he usually picks these up first.Content of textbook: Unit 1 is all matching & sorting. There are 9 lessons & a review. Unit 2 is numbers to 5. There are 14 lessons & a review. The lessons include counting objects and matching them to numbers. Building various shapes with blocks. Counting objects & coloring blocks to indicate the number (like a graph). Tracing numbers & shapes. Writing numbers. Counting & writing numbers. Reading picture graphs & writing number answers. Unit 3 is numbers 6 - 10. Unit 4 is counting in order (introduces a number line). Unit 5 is shapes. Unit 6 is patterns. Unit 7 is length & size (this unit appears to be really well done - we haven't gotten that far - I would have purchased the books for this unit alone). Unit 8 is weight (also impressive). Unit 9 is capacity. Unit 10 is comparing sets. And then there is a glossary.Content of activity book: The activity book units are the same as the textbook. The back of the activity book has cutouts which your child glues onto the activity pages. Not every page uses cutouts, but a lot of them do. Unit 1 has 5 activities. Unit 2 has 5. Unit3 has 5. Unit 4 has 4. Unit 5 has 7. Unit 6 has 7. Unit 7 has 5. Unit 8 has 5. Unit 9 has 5. Unit 10 has 4 activities.

Better For Preschool Than Kindergarten
A lot of the concepts in this activity book may be a little too easy for a Kindergartner. This book covers topics such as simple matching (draw a line from one animal to the same animal across the page), numbers 1-10, simple shapes and patterns (circles, triangles, and squares), tall and short, and more and less. A lot of the activities have cut-outs in the back that can be pasted on the pages for the lessons. It presents a lot of the material in a very fun, colorful way with great illustrations and can be used with nursery rhyme stories from the Singapore Math website that go along with the activities in this book.Still, most of this information better suits an early preschooler. I bought it for my preschooler without knowing exactly what was inside, but unfortunately it's going to be too easy for him, so I'll have to save it for my daughter to use when she's ready for it.

The book itself is nice and colorful
The book itself is nice and colorful. Some of the activities are a bit easy for my 5 year old, but it is not an issue as some concepts will be reinforced (we do use different material for early math including Brain Quest, MathUSee and Khan Academy) . The content all together is very good in my opinion.I gave it to 3 stars because the covers of the book have severe discoloration, scratches and the book was bent (it was shipped in an envelope). This is not the condition you expect a new book to arrive.I give the content 5 stars..but there was no option to leave a feedback for the seller..and I think buyers need to be aware..so 3 stars in the end.

Great way to prep for kinder
My daughter's school uses Saxon math, but prepping her for kinder by starting her on the Singapore method has been so helpful. Note: The Activity Book A works in conjunction with Textbook A (there is also a teacher's manual and 10 readers, too). You can get away without the readers, teacher's manual, and even skip the textbook for part A, but I would not recommend skipping Textbook B. If you can afford Textbook A, go ahead and get it. But, certainly purchase all the textbooks thereafter. Once my kiddo is done with Textbook & Activity Book B, I'll likely get the complete set for the next level. The illustrations are colorful, the activities require things I have around the house, and the exercises vary for an interesting mix.

good buy! but a little easy for kindergarten
This book is great but I really think it is more appropriate for pre-k. My son is a 5 year old kindergartener and he is just whizzing through this. We are only a month into school and he is almost finished the book. But he really likes it. Great pictures, great activities, great way of presenting the material! Really love it just maybe more of a review for those kindergarteners that have been practicing math concepts since 2,3,4 years of age.

My 4 Year Old Loves It
I started using this product with my 4 year old daughter. She could already recognize her numbers through 12 and some above that, but had never had any formal study. We are beginning homeschool in the fall and I let her try out the Early Bird Math program a little early. Needless to say, we have kept going. She loves it and begs for "just one more" lesson. The lessons are simple. They cover matching, logic, numbers 1-10, addition and subtraction. I feel that the average 4 year old would have no problem using this book. The textbook is helpful, but not absolutely necessary.

FUN
My daughter loved this book. It involves a lot of cutting things which my daughter is too young to do on her own so that was kind of a pain but it is very interactive which she loved.

The activity book is more like what you could buy at a drug store
I bought this book thinking it was the Earlybird Kindergarten Mathematics Textbook. The textbook is very substantial. This activity book leaves out a lot of the conceptual work included in the textbook. The activity book is more like what you could buy at a drug store, only a drug store book would be much cheaper. If you are looking for extra practice formatted the same as the Singapore textbook, this activity book might be what you want. Otherwise, buy the textbook. I would rate the textbook 5 stars.

Me gusta el método Singapur
A mí hija de casi 4 años le encanta. Ea muy dinámico y muy visual y va aprendiendo los números sin esfuerzo. Muy buena compra.
