Impressive. Affordable. Great handheld 3D capture for art, product and architectural projects.
The arrival of affordable consumer oriented and priced 3D scanners like the Revopoint RANGE 2 3D Scanner, driven in no small part by the rise of 3D printing, has helped me realize a long held ambition, to make 3D scans of art works and architectural details with the hope that the scans might be used to output actual objects for future projects. The technology is really impressive. In the past this type of capability was very expensive and found only in industry and cinema special effects houses. That put it out of reach for most average users. You have to give Revopoint credit for creating a range of affordable 3D capture devices and software that interface with either a computer or smart phone. Setup was straight forward. Install RevoScan software, on your PC, Android or iOS device, decide whether to use a cable or WiFi to link the scanner and the software, and scan. Of course, it's more complicated than that once you get to the actual scanning part. The biggest issue, other than perfecting your stability and technique for hand holding the scanner for capture, or using a turntable for small objects, is finding a place to do the scan where the object to be scanned has no other objects near it, or in the near background. That can sometimes be difficult to arrange if you don't have an empty room space or if the object is installed in an environment you can't control. There are a number of issues of course with perspective and capturing tops and bottoms of things. One other issue, covered by Revopoint in a helpful video, is that featureless objects like spheres, boxes, balls, etc and objects with shiny or reflective surfaces can confuse the scanner and software and have to be ornamented with target stickers to give the scanner dimensional points to create a usable grid and mesh out of. The software can output both STL, PLY, & OBJ files. You should have a good grip on your final output needs before picking which one to use. The scanner has a max distance to object of about fifty-one inches.I am blown away and impressed by this tool being available for under $800.00. I am making progress on my early days scanning of test objects. Now I have to work on the real world 3D object creation from capture file technology part of the process. But very impressed with the Revopoint RANGE 2 3D Scanner.

Great scanner
This scanner is ready to use right out of the box and comes with a very nice carrying case. The quick setup went by like a breeze. The canning software was also very easy to use.Only down side of this scanner is that it was definitely made for larger objects. You will find it difficult to get precision scans of small objects

Excellent large object consumer 3d scanner, fantastic detail capture
This was the first 3d scanner I've owned that provides full color capture and I love it. The first object I scanned (with no real purpose) was a 4wd transfer case sitting in my yard. The transfer case scan was better than I expected - I saw grease marks on the cast aluminum and noticed matching stains on the scan. I scanned my hand and saw scars. I haven't done anything with the scans yet but I am impressed with the scanning capabilities. The software is easy to use and work with. I didn't connect this to my laptop over wifi, rather I connected over USB and the data transfer was quick. The handle is comfortable and secure without being heavy or bulky. Large scale scanning with high accuracy and color really makes this a solid value.

Takes a bit of practice but watching tutorials on capture makes this product awesome
After spending a lot of time on videos and watching how the scanner should work. I decided to go ahead and try to scan multiple objects including my son for his YouTube channel as well as my dad's car and the family pet. All the tutorials that I saw on YouTube were extremely helpful in how to capture with detail. The scanner itself works really well with Windows. I did have some issues with my m1 MacBook but my M2 Mac ultra seem to handle the software fine so there could be some version differences there that need to be figured out. Overall I think this product is wonderful and still looking for more and more uses

Revopoint Range 2 is Terrible on Mac OS
I’m on Day 3 trying to get this Range 2 to be detected by the software. Nothing has worked. I have called the customer support numbers listed as and they’re both disconnected!!!I have downloaded the google video they provided for this known issue and the woman in the video says refresh the usb tree by holding “Command and either + or @ but it’s hard to make out and neither has worked. I’m beyond frustrated by this. I truly believed it was plug and play but it’s been 3 days of it being an expensive paper weight. Also the current version 5. Is not available for Mac through the Apple Store, only the iPad and iPhone versions are. So OS users are stuck with the old version 4 for the new Range 2. **** I found a thread in a forum on Day 5/6 that let me download the OS version of Revo Scan 5 which also happens to crash from time to time. The common problem is with version 5 is an issue with the tracking system syncing up and the app NOT properly aligning rendered point cloud data for Obj export.Look, I do heavy 3d graphics work via Unreal C4D etc as well as working with 6k footage natively, I have a more than decent machine but this device isn’t worth it. I own a steady cam and it doesn’t help with the alignment issues because of constant lost tracking.I actually bought this tool to get away from utilizing Polycam 3d. But hands down my iPhone 14 Pro Max in comb with Polycam makes the range look as if it was manufactured by fisher-Price.Don’t wast the money on a company that doesn’t have support for their products call the 323 numbers on the photo from their app. Totally disappointing and I plan on returning it. Buyers beware.Oh and for anyone thinking about using it with a smartphone well apparently when you try to transfer it to the computer it still doesn’t work (scanner not found) Major Tracking issues, misalignment of meshes/objects and from other reviews I have found it depreciates the quality when transferred, cannot be fixed on a computer whatsoever.Update day 8, a few days ago the company reached out to us indicating that they would like to get my specs for the iPhone and Mac so I uploaded/updated it here for future reference. In the message we were asked if we could video chat so they could potentially help figure out how to make it better or determine if I have a faulty Range 2.I personally am far too busy with daily work to slow down at the moment to invest more time and energy into it.I appreciate the email response but I believe that the Range 2 is working normally, that nothing is wrong with it beyond its lack of tracking stability and layering of like/continuous scans.I have tried studio, natural and negative fills to light large4x5 ft hand made art and get monstrous renders.Multiple color palette choices and Black, coffee Brown, reflective Silver colors don’t work well at all for scans.Who would have guessed that My iPhone and Poly would be 1000 percent better especially with the colors mentioned above. Side note, I thought it would be awesome if we could use a physical 3D scanner with A phone app like poly cam for the best of both worlds. That’s what I was hoping for but it was too much for so little.I hope this helps you out. I honestly don’t want to seem mean or ruin the brand. I’m sure the other products are good but I’m sharing the genuine experience I have had. Please look at my other reviews on Amazon for film equipment reviews.I will most definitely post a video (perhaps via YouTube) about this entire Mac/IOS process.
