All That Jazz [Region 2] (English audio. English subtitles)

A good drama about the making of a drama for stage and screen. I would never have considered it if it hadn't been recommended by someone I trust (we're not glitz fans by any stretch of the imagination). But, as a show about show time, with copious amounts of OTT, it was very well well acted (well mostly) and certainly the dancing outstanding (all of the principal dancers and especially lead Sandahl Bergman). Bob Fosse's choreography for the 'we start with smoke' routine was brilliantly done.The only problem was that it was much too drawn out - especially the final scene where, how should I put this, the character lingered at least 20 minutes far too long.

Having just watched Fosse/Verdon on BBC, surely bound to win a handful of Tony Awards, I thought it a good idea to catch up with Bob Fosse''s autobiographical version..If you've seen the BBC series don't go anywhere near this.However, if you've seen the BBC series and you then watch this, as I did, you'll see just what a mess this is. Ugh!

A great film by Bob fosse such clever touches

I REALLY ENJOYED THIS MOVIE. IT IS EXCELLENT FROM START TO FINISH. ONE OF THE TOP TEN MOVIES EVER MADE.

I have loved this from the first day I saw it. This is my third copy which I have given as a present.

So happy to have found the Criterion remastered version of this movie. It has always been one of my most favourite films and yet another career milestone for the late, great Bob Fosse, Everything about this movie works and holds up today. It's what I'd say would be a "dark" musical but there are still laughs, a look at the real Broadway, and a whole lot of That Jazz.Ann Reinking is at her dazzling peak here. The musical numbers are all knockouts. And hey it's not everyday you see a showstopper number interspersed with heart surgery.:-) I had the DVD previously, but if you are a fan of this movie like I am, you must get this amazing blu-ray.The picture and sound quality are beyond what I even expected. I'd have to say that of the Broadway adaptations to film, this film and "Hello, Dolly!" are easily the most dazzling restorations to be seen and heard.And last but not least, a truly great performance by Roy Scheider. Only Fosse would be genius enough to cast an actor one just wouldn't expect to see cast in a role like this......which is more or less, reflecting Fosse's own life.It's a keeper. Amazing find. Thank you Amazon.

Ésta última incluso le valió ganar la palma de oro en el festival de Cannes, y sin duda alguna, llevó al género musical hacia otro terreno.All that Jazz, cuenta la historia de Joe Gideon, un coreógrafo y director de una obra de teatro de Broadway, que goza de una gran fama y prestigio. Por las mañanas se encarga de dirigir y ensayar su nueva obra de teatro, mientras que por las noches, se encarga de editar su nueva obra cinematográfica. Joe Gideon, interpretado por Roy Scheider (conocido por su papel en Tiburón) vive una vida caótica y acelerada, siendo un perfeccionista obsesivo, vive en una espiral acelerada entre las obras de teatro y su película que va dirigiendo y editando hasta la saciedad. Gideon es la representación de la vida misma de Fosse, y esto hace de All That Jazz, una película semi autobiográfica. Lo único (y que siempre será lo malo) es que Criterion nunca va a tener subtítulos en otro idioma más que en inglés, en cada una de sus ediciones.Lo mejor: El inicio de la película, con la canción On Broadway de George Benson. La escena donde Gideon lee junto con los miembros de la obra de teatro el guion. Los diálogos con la mujer bella que tiene Gideon, y por supuesto, la secuencia final: magistral.Lo peor: ¿Puede haber algo malo en esta película? Para mi no, pero quizá el ritmo tan rápido que tiene quizá pueda ser confuso, pero es digno de representar la vida que Gideon tiene a lo largo de la película.Sin duda alguna, una obra maestra total del cine contemporáneo.Si no te gustan los musicales, ver All That Jazz hará que tu opinión cambie de parecer, no importa en qué medio la veas, es una película que vale la pena ver por lo menos una vez en la vida.10/10

I will assume if you are reading this you are already a fan of the movie and are trying to decide whether or not it is worth buying the Blu-ray. The picture quality is excellent, as good, if not better, than I remember in the theatre. There is excellent contrast and sharpness. The blacks, particularly in the fantasy sequences, are just as they should be. The sound is not as great. It is very front heavy. Only occasionally do the surrounds come into play. Some people I have read say there is no activity in their surround speakers at all. There is some in mine, mainly to reinforce music in the musical sequences, but that may just be the Dolby Pro Logic processor on my receiver. A 5.1 mix would have been nice, like they had on the DVD, but it is what it is. For me the upgrade in picture quality still makes this a worthwhile purchase, not to mention the many supplements included. So, with the caveat of the sound in mind, I would still recommend this Blu-ray.

Most of his memories are of his choreography, simply the most spectacular showcase of sexy modern dance on film. Like no other choreographer, Fosse composes his frames for the camera instead of the stage. A must-see for lovers of Terpsechore, graphic design, and photography.After her plodding performance as a warrior maiden alongside CONAN, 6-foot, statuesque Sendahl Bergman bring life to her stage in her proper profession as a stellar dancer.A producer remarks at the celebration of body beauty, "There goes the family audience." Definitely not your usual Busby musical comedy.

Una obra maestra que nos muestra la complejidad del proceso creativo de un genio logrando su obra máxima, al mismo tiempo que enfrentará sus conflictos, miedos e inseguridades para encontrarse con la muerte que le mostrará el significado de su vida antes de llevárselo.

Ein etwas verwirrender Film über einen an Herzinfakt eingelieferten Choreographen einer Broadwayshow. Kein eingängiger Musiktitel. Teilweise nichts für zartbeseitete. Bilder aus dem Krankenhaus, aufschneiden des Oberkörpers mit wegklappen der Haut, zeigen der inneren Organe. Tanzszenen und Choreo ganz OK.

"All that Jazz" gehört seit Ewigkeiten zu meinen Lieblingsfilmen. Bob Fosse ist einfach der unglaublichste Jazzdance-Choreograph gewesen. Die verschleierte Frau, die das Lebensinterview führt und sich nach und nach entschleiert, habe ich früher als den Tod interpretiert. Heute sehe ich sie als die Klarheit, die Lebensweisheit, die man sich so nach und nach mit den Jahren erwirbt.Der Film ist lustig, tragisch, dramatisch, vordergründig, hintergründig, mitreißend. Eben: "It's Showtime!"5 Sterne, zweifellos.

Per chi ama il musical, i retroscena della creazione, i vizi e le virtù dei grandi registi: un docu-fiction ante litteram, con tante invenzioni sceniche e bella musica. Meritatissimi i quattro Oscar e la Palma d'Oro a Cannes, da vedere e rivedere perché supera brillantemente la prova del tempo e delle mode.

Fabulous movie. So difficult to find and it never plays on TV. A truly amazing performance by Roy Scheider as Bob Fosse - and the stunning Ann Reinking.
