Not very useful
Not worth it. There were only maybe one and a half chapters that were actually useful. Everything else was about the history of jackets and how to use a cad machine. You’re better off getting Pattern Cutting for Womenswear 6th Edition by the same author; it has the same chapter on drafting jackets but includes other pattern drafts as well. I really don’t know why they released this book.

Disappointing book. Too much irrelevant info and not enough basic pattern blocks.
Quite a disappointing book. There is only one block for the classic jacket which is the same as Aldrich other book so nothing new there. A lot of history which is not that relevant for the book, and too much production data stuff which is no good for the ordinary person as no-one has a CAD system either. The interfacing section is ok and the tailoring techniques are good too. It seems like a lot of pages are put in to bulk it out. I would have like to see some different jacket blocks, classical and new which this book does not really have.

really saddened
i have full collection books of this author and every from new books are very very useful and indispensable. But not about jacket, unfortunately not. It’s irrelevant book with a lot of useless content. And it’s the most expensive anyway!

I love it! The book cover the processes to draw different jacket patterns. Chapter 1 is about the historical evolution of the woman's tailored jacket. Chapter 2 is about suitable fabrics, interlinings, body measurements and tools. In Chapter 3, the Bespoke Jacket, you also find interesting suggestions about waist shaping. Chapter 4 is about the Engineered Classic Semi-fitted Jacket, with an overview of the process of manufacture, and chapters dedicated to block, body shapes, darts, collar and necklines, sleeves, pockets variations.

This book gives sizes in UK standards and also uses centimeters for measurements. It is very thorough and gives good overview of the necessary measurements needed for ensuring that a lady's jacket fits as required. I found it very useful as well as helpful and I have only just begun to dabble in tailoring garments. My opinion is that you cannot have too much information on tailoring and I buy every book I can on this subject. After having bought it and looked through it I would recommend it as a valuable addition to your library.

this book talks a lot about industrial jacket making , production lines and so on... even though its interesting I wished this book had more drafting intstructions for jakets and such... perhaps coats... In the first 23 pages there is secton on evolution of womens jackets which is nice.
