Don't buy this one,pay a little more for a better model,or less&get a classic plain Ole can opener.
I have used a few different kind of can openers in my life, including other safe edge models. This is hands down the worst, and most difficult to operate. I read other reviews, and I tried several different techniques to no avail. I ended up getting cuts because this thing is so hard tk operate, and I had to try and pry open the can.I should have spent the few extra bucks and ordered a model that doesn't require a 7 point technique. The video that shows how to use it makes it look so easy, but I had to lean a certain way, hang the can a different way, try to attach and clasp at just the right time. All this while my wife is in the kitchen enjoying every moment of my frustration.

BADLY DESIGNED--FAR INFERIOR TO PREVIOUS DESIGN
I ordered this to replace my old Zyliss, on which the cutting edge has become dull. This version of the safety can opener is far INFERIOR to the previous version, unfortunately--so much so that I am returning it.It is much more difficult to get this can opener on the can properly. The small moveable part of the handle (the white part in the photo) is not easy to manipulate when one is putting it on the can, and it doesn't close easily even when one is NOT putting it on a can! In addition, the so-called ergonomic design (the bent handle) makes the can opener more difficult to use on short cans, such as cat food cans. (I do not like to use the pull tabs on canned cat and dog food--they make it difficult to get all the food out, and the sharp inner rim remaining after one pulls the lid off cuts my spatulas and my fingers. So I prefer to use a safety can opener.) To open a can of cat food with this Zyliss, I have to place it very near the edge of my counter and work to get the can opener attached properly without (hopefully) knocking the can to the floor. The can opener is also uncomfortable; the handle isn't quite long enough for one's hand.Once I do get the can open, the little knobby things one is to use to remove the lid are difficult to see and manipulate. Rather than being placed at the edge of the can opener, which makes the lid removal device easy to see while placing it on the lid to use it, these are placed underneath the can opener and are impossible to see from above. This makes it very difficult to place the device properly to remove a lid. To do so, one must bend over and peer up under the can opener to see where the knobby doohickeys are in relation to the lid while attempting to grasp the edge of the lid with the doohickeys for removal. All in all, this is a very bad design--very difficult to use in multiple ways.

It won't open most cans.
I have used it for 4 months. It works on almost half of the cans I have tried it on. It will start ok, and move about an inch around the rim of the can if I am lucky. After that I have to open it, move it, and try again. I have had several safety edge can openers, but this is absolutely the worst. I have had better luck with an old fashioned "church key" can opener.

Great when it works
Great and works on almost all cans, however the angle is too low for tuna (plus you can't use the lid to drain it because the rim is wider than the can and cannot be pushed down) and it gets gummed up or won't work on walmart "Great Value" brand cans. Nice feel in your hand and you can tell when it is done. The pivoting part of the handle that makes it lock on immediately came loose on mine, but still works fine. Don't bother using the lid grabber function, it's useless on nearly all lids and it is easier to just pry it up with your hands.

too hard to use
It works well and does what it is supposed to do, but ONLY AFTER you spend a ton of time and patience placing it in the mysteriously-hard-to-determine, IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE correct position. The correct position also seems to change every time one uses the can-opener, almost as if the can opener has temperamental, passive-aggressive tendencies. Taking off the lid of the can once one has successfully used the opener presents a new challenge to the user, as the correct position/angle/mood of the opener again must be determined by trial, error, and (if you are the religious type) prayer. Pampered Chef has this type of "smooth-edge" opener that WORKS, and this would be my suggestion to you. Our PChef opener broke and I was in a hurry, and feeling frugal the day I ordered this Zyliss one. And NO, I do NOT sell PChef products. I just am recommending a good opener, and suggesting you stay away from this moody little Zyliss number unless you really enjoy a good old, time consuming, can-opener related challenge.

Not easy to use.
This is not easy to use. I have had a Zyliss can opener before. I was able to use it because of my experience with the previous can opener from Zyliss. It doesn't always cut in the center of the rim on the lid. It can deviate on course and not cut all the way through. It can also spin out when it loses its grip. This swerving can cause slivers of lid material or not being able to remove the lid. I showed my wife how to use the can opener and drew a diagram to illustrate how to center the blade on the middle of the lid rim. Later, she tried to open some peas and gave up, frustrated, after 10 minutes of trying and she resorted to using the old-style can opener.

Follow up review
A follow up on my previous review. This Zyliss can opener does work very well. Even though it does have a cutting wheel and it does not un-crimp the can top, it works as described. I wanted this type of opener to open those soup cans with the pull tab, which are hard to remove contents because of the huge lip left on top. This zyliss can opener does not un-crimp the top of the can. It cuts through the crimped lip at the half way point. You can see it clearly in the photo. The first comment by Noemata is from 2011 and is not describing this can opener.

Clean and safe can opening
Liked the clean smooth edges of the opened can, and the complete controlled separation of the lid.Would have preferred a larger "drive" wheel for faster opening, and a longer lever for easier turning (or alternatively, a left-handed version). Still, I'm getting used to the opener, cans are getting opened faster with more practice, and I am expecting this to be my opener of choice for the foreseeable future.

Effortless and no sharp edges
Just got this can opener. Ordered it Sunday evening, and it's already here on Tuesday - with free shipping! Very pleased with this little beauty. Thank goodness, after suffering with the piece of garbage I've been using. True to the description, there are indeed no sharp edges. It doesn't take super strength to operate, either. And it also seems to have the ability to lift the lid off, but I didn't do it right yet. I thought at first that it didn't work because it was so easy to turn the handle and quiet, and I couldn't see the cut seam. But the lid came off. It has simple to follow diagram instructions on the label, and I was able to figure it out no problem. Would recommend this to anyone who is frustrated with a lousy can opener and needs something decent!

Diferente
Me fue difícil entender cómo funciona. Busqué en YouTube cómo hacerlo y estoy encantada cómo abre las latas. Sin duda lo volvería a comprar.

Great Can Opener
Love this can opener. Opens-up the can without any sharp edges and you can use only say half the can and put the lead back on, put the can back in the fridge for your next meal and it stays well covered without having to transfer it to a storage container if you plan to use it within a short time. Easy to use and at a good price. I will highly recommend it to anyone and seniors.
