Medium gray tees depict a very special locomotive along the California Coast. Engine #51 was the 75,000th locomotive built by the American Locomotive works. There were 3 locomotives in this set, and all three were the only ones to suffer an engine change to the competitor EMD diesel power. The result was a loss of 250 hp, and was not successful enough to repeat. The balance of the large Santa Fe fleet of Alco PA locomotives continued on into the late 1960s, belching out Alco trademark thick clouds of black smoke upon acceleration.
