Great color match if you are patient
I ordered this product to repair some cat claw damage to an ivory leather chair arm - the cats liked to be on the arm while we sat in the chair, but then jumped off and their back claws damaged the leather in several places before we quit letting them be on this piece. The ivory color was not too hard to recreate, but it took many tests on an inconspicuous spot on the bottom of the ottoman to get the color exactly right. I used the included color matching table and started with a small amount of white, added a TINY amount of yellow (not even a drop), then had to re-add several drops of white (the yellow is EXTREMELY vibrant and overpowers the white easily). With a final small amount of brown - again, not even a whole drop - I got an exact match and applied it to the arm of the chair with the included small flat plastic applicator. I didn't mix up enough to need the sponge-tipped tube applicator, so cannot comment on that part of the kit.The only way you can tell a repair has been done is to look in very bright light at an angle. The color is exactly the same, but the reflectivity of the repaired areas is a bit duller than the original leather. I can probably use a leather conditioning product on the entire area to fix this, but haven't done so because the chair is not where the lighting will ever be bright enough to have this be an issue.I think this is an extremely cost-effective product which, though it takes some time to get the color right, can certainly be used to do minor repairs such as cat damage. I don't know how it would handle larger damage.

Disappointed
I bought this to repair damaged areas on my husband's leather office chair. I used the repair kit to fix a large worn hole in the arm of the chair and it smoothed it to be the same dimension as the rest of the arm; however, due to the location of the hole, I wasn't able to use the texture paper so I can't attest to it's worth. Although the repair portion of the kit seemed to work, I was very disappointed in the quality of the paint. It seemed to be just acrylic paint and I was expecting a type of dye. After applying the paint with the sponge applicator and deciding the applicator was too large for the smaller areas I wanted covered, I was able to rub the paint off with a little water and a paper towel (I suppose this is a good feature for people who don't get the right tint the first time around). I had hoped the product would dye the leather but instead it just painted over it (complicated for me because the leather was multi-toned brown). I tried two coats of different colors but ended up rubbing most of the paint off. Fortunately my husband isn't as particular as I am and he's satisfied with the results. I will look further for a better product to correct the scratched areas on our leather couches and chairs.

this kit contains basic colors like white, black
this kit contains basic colors like white, black, brown, yellow, green and red. the instruction comes with color guide in description. the leather item I was repairing is red, not a difficult color to match, just need to test the mixture on the attached vinyl that comes with the kit, and you can wipe the color off the vinyl easily for re-use.I didn't use the dab-pen that comes with it because the area I was going to repair is much smaller than the dabbing sponge, instead I used watercolor brush, the smallest one, to apply the mixed red (red+brown) that I think closely matching the item itself. it looks OK after the painted area dried up, what amazed me was the clear finish that I have applied over the painted area, it made the repaired area looked new and restored to a very satisfactory state, I wouldn't say it matched 100% but you can't really tell under a bright light, I have not used it at daytime yet, so not sure how it looks like under the natural daylight. But overall, the result is good. You just need to make sure you try a few times on a small and not so visible area to see if the color matches your expectation. I did't use as much water as it was given on the instruction, since I paint watercolor for leisure, I kinda get the feeling when the mixture paint is enough or not.The bottom line is, I like this product, and I wish it would come with more color selections for more options.

This is a pretty decent product for the price
This is a pretty decent product for the price. It includes a number of small pots of color which, as others have said, must be carefully mixed to suit. Application is with a clever tool that looks like a felt pen but is really a sort of dauber where the dye is released to the dauber cloth by pressing down/opening a valve. It's easy to manage the tool so that the dauber is neither too wet nor too dry."Dye" by the way, is really paint. It just colors the surface of the leather rather than penetrating. This is not uncommon. In fact it is penetrating leather dyes that are uncommon, at least in furniture, because they are time-consuming to apply and do not produce the perfectly even coloring of the paint style "dye." (For penetrating dyes, try the Fiebing line.)Once the dye is applied (use several thin layers), there is a clear finish to be applied. I have actually not done that yet on my project but I was disappointed to find that only a tiny amount of finish is provided (same size pot as the dyes) and the instruction is to wet a paper towel with it and use that as the applicator. What I would like to have seen is a second dauber and a more generous supply of clear finish.

I was able to closely match the color that I needed but if I were able to contact the manufacture I would suggest that they include 2 containers of white ink as almost all blended colors require white to lighten them. This means that the white ink will run out long before the rest of the base colors.

Kit did not come with a measuring dropper or mixing container so no idea how to mix it. It's unusable. I contacted the seller and was advised this was all that came with my kit. If I had known this would not have ordered it.
