11yr old Lab/Shep mix walking almost normally again!
I got this in the largest size out of desperation for Noah, my 95lb black lab/shepherd mix rescue who is 11 years old, and otherwise healthy and full of energy and life. (And the love of my life!) His gait changed fairly quickly a few months ago, and continued to deteriorate to the point where he was dragging his left leg significantly. We knew some of it was arthritis & the vet has been treating him for it. Then last week, I noticed he was knuckling that foot, too, and after a long walk we came home and it was covered in blood because he had worn down his toenails so far. It was gut-wrenching and heartbreaking. Out of desperation, I started searching for solutions for dogs with arthritis, and came across this product (among a many others). After reading the description, I realized that perhaps his physical issues were more than arthritis. I contemplated and researched a bit more, and then finally ordered it. (In the meantime, I used another boot product with a soft cotton sock inside it to protect his foot/toes!) He was also struggling to squat and poop properly, and not much was coming out. After only 5 walks/uses of this apparatus in 56 hours or so, I have a dog whose gait has improved SIGNIFICANTLY! He needed time to adjust to walking in it, and it was clear when he needed a break the first time (2-5 minutes is recommended, but after trying that initially, I found he was okay to have it on for more like 10 minutes the first walk, then 15 minutes overall the second walk). In the first walk, he barely tolerated the protective bootie/sock when I took this implement off of him. He immediately started dragging the foot inside the boot, so I took that off entirely and let him walk, and found he was naturally adjusting his gait on the first walk! After a break, we put it back on again for closer to 10 minutes, and he was great until the last 90 seconds or so. He gave me a strong reflexive kick from both legs -- one after the other. When I took it off in the house, he was tired, but seemed energized. (We kept the whole session short.)His second two walks ended up being a little shorter than usual overall, but right from the start out of the house, he was lifting the foot/leg to walk down the steps and onto the sidewalk. He continued to show signs of both improvement and adjustment (which involves negotiating with his proprioceptive system to figure out how best to organize the activity of walking), and was naturally tired after a session. His fourth walk last night was very smooth overall, and he walked even more beautifully when I took the brace off than he did when it was on! When he got tired of trying to manage his own gait, I put it back on again, and it helped support the process of lifting the foot properly and placing it. This morning, he wanted to walk longer and further than he has in MONTHS! He was able to tolerate almost equal time in and out of the brace, and his gait is shockingly better! He is also pooping a lot more and no longer struggling to squat -- all looks healthy. Walking/muscles and constipation are often related in humans, so it would make sense that it would be similar for dogs too, I'm thinking.I am still going to have my chiropractor work with him (she also does doggies!) to see if we can make him more comfortable overall, but this has really, REALLY surprised me in terms of how efficacious it is! If you have a dog with this issue, it's worth a try. I was skeptical and worried about it because you can spend a shocking amount of money trying to help your dog with products that are ineffective and cannot be returned. This was, for us, not one of those products.

Meh
My dog recently had acl surgery and has started knuckling her foot. Obviously it does keep her foot in a position to not knuckle. But, its waaaaay too expensive (i bought it when it was $60 something dollars) i come on here to leave this review only to find the price has gone down to like $40! Anyways for what it is, its worth maybe $20. Velcro i also dont think is the best way to go. This thing is hard enough to put on without 2 people, but with velcro the straps stick and are hard to take on and off gently....especially when you have an injured dog. It falls off during our walks and so far she still knuckles when its not on. Ill keep trying it....its just such a process to put on and take off 😅 on top of all the other stuff i gotta put on her like her help em up harness. I dont think ill buy again if its still $40-$60.

Effective, but challenging with flufflier breeds
My 11-year-old border collie had a hemilaminectomy ~3 years ago. The surgery was minimally effective and since we have been working on maintaining the function he does have in his back legs. I DEFINITELY recommend this no-knuckling training sock to help with proprioception. He doesn't mind having it on (as much as that's possible) and it keeps him from dragging his toes on the pavement, which has led to bleeding in the past.I have two relatively minor issues so far. First, my god has a fluffy double-coat and there is no way to keep the fasteners from sticking to his fur. This makes it a little frustrating to take on and off. Second, there is a small pad on the cord for a little extra cushion around their toes; this has already seen some wear and tear from walking on the sidewalk and I've only been using it for a week.Overall, a great and effective product. One that is super cost-efficient compared with other similar products (like OrthoPets' Toe Up Boot) that work exactly the same. This is certainly the better option for indoor work.

Costly but worth every penny
While I do think the price on these were a bit steep and with a sewing machine, time, and materials, you can make something just like this yourself at home, this product works. My dog has recent started to do knuckling when walking. The vet said it is a degenerative disease but said my dog has a lot of life left in her and gave her a few days worth of medication but couldnt be on them long term. Meds worked well but over the holiday weekend when she was off her meds, she could barely walk. We were beginning to think the worse. Got these today she was up and walking again, like the knuckling was never an issue for her. She even was walking in a circle going after some treats I tossed on the floor and she didnt wobble once. I am thankful for these braces. To see her up and moving again and walking along side our 5 month old puppy made me cry happy tears.

Don’t do it!!
This is a bunch of crap! First of all, the item is way expensive for what it is! It didn’t work, and were literally a strap attached to a piece of thin foam for $50 damn dollars! then I returned both that I bought (bc they’re $50 for only one and if your dog has issues in both feet you have to buy 2!) but when I returned them they sent both back in the same box with the same label and now I’ve been charged for one of them and have no way to contact the seller or try to talk to anyone about it! I don’t want to view my status! I want to talk to someone about it! People like this have taken advantage of my desperation of having a crippled dog and not a lot of options for equipment and this company is no exception! I will never purchase anything from this seller again! Not worth the price and now I’ve paid for one that I returned! Should have just given me a way to confront this privately but instead I’ll just chalk it up and let the world know how terrible you are!

IRRITATE TOES
CAUSE RAWNESS BETWEEN TOES. NOMATTER HOW LITTLE TIME THEY ARE ON THEIR FEET. i cant rate the fitting because they dont make them without irritation to my furbabies skin between his toes. im going to start my own line of Erganomically fitted footwear for our babies!

Surprisingly shocked
We are surprisingly shocked this worked. We have a 14yr old large mix breed who has been knuckling for sometime now. We had a alot of snow so our sidewalks will be cleared before the grass, she already has had a few infections because of ice cuts. We got it today and with tonight's walk which is not long less then 10mins as that's all she can handle. It worked she did knucle a few times but it corrected itself right away and you could see she wanted to knucle but the brace stopped it. Ordered one as a test and just placed an order for the second. I am not one to leave reviews but for all the other dog parents who are looking for a product to try this would be one.

Brilliant!
Our dog was involved in a serious road accident and was left with horrific injuries. Thanks to the dedication of her veterinary surgeon she had made a full recovery, but was knuckling her back leg when walking around. After wearing this training sock just a couple of times whilst exercising, she is now walking with her foot in a normal position! The sock fits snugly around the back leg and the toes can be pulled up to encourage the correct position. Brilliant - nothing else like it on the market. Even the physio thought is was amazing!

Does not work for dogs with webbed toes
Our 11 year old poodle knuckles under his left rear foot. Just received brace today 11/09/23 tried putting the cord under the two middle toes and because he has webbing it won’t work as intended. There should be a warning

Does the job
In my opinion the sizing is large, but even with it being large it did the job. It helped me dog improve his walking and he didn't see to mind wearing it. Expensive for what it is but it works.
