No magic here
The best written most boring book I've read in a while. The plot just crept along with no action with characters that weren't very likable. No wonder JK Rowling wrote under this pseudonym. She should have stuck with the Harry Potter series. No magic here

Fun read.
I've read quite a few detective series in the past, this flows well, and kepts my interests over the three book series. If you like investigations and crime stories, I believe you will enjoy this well crafted book.

Cormoran Strike, my new favourite character.
I collect the works of very few authors. Robert Galbraith (J.K. Rowling) has become one of them.

Not as good as I had hoped
This is a series that follows the Private Investigator Cormoran Strike as he solves crimes. So I picked up this book after hearing lots of hype about the series in general, knowing the author also wrote the Harry Potter books, and knowing this was a mystery. I was prepared for it to be a great book. I was disappointed. It was an okay book. The story and mystery were good. However, the book itself was very slow paced for me. I will not be reading the rest of this series.

The book really is cuckoo
If you love crude language, a brilliant detective to stupid to live his own life, who hasn’t a grain of common sense, this book is for you.

Somewhat Disappointing
I read this expecting to get the imagination and originality of the JK Rowling (the author's real name) but was disappointed. It's not terrible, and the main character has that wonderful combination of likeable traits and flaws that make him real -- but the plot is too complicated and too similar to so many other detective novels.

Just Bloody Fabulous!
After being entranced by Stephen Fry's reading of the Harry Potter books I'd begun to wonder if I would ever enjoy another narrator for an audio book -- frankly I felt spoiled and now other audio books sounded crappy in comparison. So imagine my delight to discover Robert Glenister's reading of "The Cuckoo's Calling" absolutely enchanting! His mastery of English accents is superb and his ability to spit out cusswords with proper authority is impressive. Of course, I imagine it was hard to keep a straight face reading some of the more amusing passages...he had me laughing aloud. His portrayal of the hero's drunken binge was priceless and his ability to portray each character so vividly brings this beautifully written story to life. Thanks Mr. Glenister, I'll be looking for more books read by you!
