Easy to set up, but your source may present problems.
The unit itself was easy to connect, but it took us a while to discover that our TV had a special setting for optical sound output.

Not bad
I wasn't expecting much out of this, but I can honestly say it's not bad. The sound quality is good and supports high frequencies and bitrate. I don't think this is going to replace any dedicated DAC/AMP setups that audiophiles use, but as an entry, this is pretty cool. I would like to see more options for connections, but this is good for now.

Handy little DAC.
This digital to analog converter is designed to convert TOSLINK optical to analog audio via a 3.5mm audio jack.I like that it supports up to 192kHz/24-bit high quality audio, but I don't like that it does not support Dolby DTS and you must set your TV, or other device, to output to PCM in order to use this device. For me, this isn't too much of an issue, but it might be for some. The one thing that I really don't like about the physical design is that they should have made it slightly wider so that all 3 wires could be plugged into the rear of the unit rather than having 1 wire sticking out of the front where it interferes with having easy access to the volume control. This doesn't affect the functionality, but it does affect its ease of use for some ways this DAC can be used. That said, if you are using this DAC with headphones, you might actually want the 3.5mm jack on the front, so it just depends on how you intend to use it.Another thing to note is that even though it includes a USB cable, it doesn't include a USB power brick, so you will need to provide your own. This is a very handy device to have on hand since many newer TVs don't have a headphone jack on them, but most of them do have TOSLINK support and that's what this little DAC is good for. This may not produce the best quality audio possible, but it does a really good job considering its very reasonable price point.

Not enough volume
My use case: We just upsized our kitchen TV from a 27" to a 32" set. The previous TV had a 3.5MM audio output which we plugged into a set of powered bookshelf speakers because as with most of these smaller TVs, the speakers are suboptimal and aimed to the rear. In the previous setup, this worked really well and boosted the audio output to an excellent volume with a high-quality sound. The new TV only has the embedded rear-facing tinny speakers or a SPDIF Optical output - no USB audio or 3.5mm output. Since I am using the exact same speaker setup, this review provides a direct comparison of the results. The OOBE was less than satisfactory. I read a lot of reviews where folks received used gear, and it's never happened to me. This package was obviously previously opened, used, and returned - and then just turned around and sent to me as a new product without even an attempt at repacking to look unused. It's unacceptable to me to receive a used product sold to me as new.The device itself works OK with caveats. It installed easily without any need to make adjustments. The volume output is much lower than our previous setup - with the device output set to max, and the speakers volume control set to max, the output is barely acceptable. If you're in a noisy environment, as a kitchen often is, you won't be able to turn the volume up high enough to overcome the ambient noise. The device requires a USB-A power supply, which I understand, but that means you need another power outlet in your installation, which is another thing in short supply in many kitchens. The poor volume output is the biggest problem - we ended up removing this device to just go with the suboptimal embedded speakers because the volume is just not high enough in anything other than a quiet environment.

Sounds great!
Problem: I want to use headphones with my TV, which lacks a headphone out but does have a TOSLINK (optical) output.Proposed solution: use a device, like this one, to convert the optical digital signal into an analog signal. Results: It works great! This is actually my second TOSLINK DAC and I like it better than the first for multiple reasons. First, the cabling solution is tidier, as it requires one fewer adapter. Second, it includes a volume knob, which was lacking on the other one. Third, subjectively it seems the sound quality is a bit better.Note: I’m feeding the DAC’s analog output into a dedicated headphone amp—thus the DAC’s amplification circuitry is actually serving as a pre-amp for the headphone amp. I have NOT tested it driving the headphones directly nor at extreme volume levels (just my normal "comfortable" level)—your experience may be quite different if you plug in your headphones to it directly and/or crank up the volume.Protip: set the TV to PCM output _and_ any inputs to the TV (in my case a FireTV streaming stick) to output PCM as well—otherwise, this DAC won’t be able to process the digital audio.[Disclosure: I received this product for “free”—in quotes because the IRS requires I pay federal income tax on the retail value. This review is honest and uncensored by the seller.]

Works great!
I didn't have high expectations for this, but I have to say it's pretty good. The sound quality is nice. I just wish there was an alternative way to power it instead of using my only USB port

Funciona perfeitamente
Estou completamente satisfeito com o produto. Converte facilmente o sinal ótico em analógico. A alimentação pode ser feita pela própria televisão, caso tenha uma entrada USB.

Excellent.
Sound quality is good, no issues with getting it to work, well-made. I use this for computer headphones. Rather than keep plugging and unplugging them which wears out the socket, I simply tell Windows to use optical out rather than analogue out.
