GOOD for Firestick to DAC (Amazon Music 192K) ****READ***
This thing works with some caveats!PLEASE READ CAREFULLY!What I wanted to achieve:Get my Firestick to output 192Khz/24bit to my SMSL DAC optical input (or compatible Amp/ AV Receiver) using the Amazon Music App playing Ultra HD 192Khz/24 bit tracks . (Without this adapter it will only ouput what the TV optical is: 48Khz/16bit... From what I understand this is standard for every TV optical out). If you don't care about Amazon Music and ability to play songs at high bitrates just plug an optical cable from your TV to your amp or DAC and enjoy 48Khz/16 bit content (you won't need this adapter). If you want the high bitrate Ultra HD playback capability proceed.NOTE: You also will need a male to male HDMI 2.X cable of the appropriate length and a male to male toslink optical cable to complete this installation. (Sorry I know this should be obvious to most but I wanted to include this bit)WARNING:Do the following steps carefully or you could damage your speakers from spurious digital noise!! This is no joke.... You have been warned.1. Set the Firestick to PCM in Sound Settings then RESTART FIRESTICK. (BEWARE: If "BEST AVAILABLE" is selected it won't work and you could damage your speakers !!!)2. POWER EVERYTHING OFF including firestick, TV, DAC, AMP.. Everything.3. Use the included USB power cable to power this adapter from a USB port on your TV or a USB charger capable of 1 amp (most standard phone chargers should work if your TV doesn't have a USB port.4. Set the little dip switches on the back of the apapter as follows: ALL DIP SWITCHES OFF except SWITCH 3. Set this one ON.5. Plug the HDMI OUT of your Firestick into the INPUT HDMI port of this adapter.6. Plug the aforementioned HDMI cable into the HDMI OUT of the adapter to an available HDMI port on your TV.7. Plug your toslink optical cable into this adapters optical OUT and the other end into the optical INPUT of your DAC/AMP/Receiver.8. After carefully checking all connections power everything up!9. Once the Firestick completes boot up. Start the Amazon Music App. In the App settings enable Ultra HD (top right 'person' icon in the App). Pick a track or album in the App that is labeled "ULTRA HD". when the track starts click the ... Icon on the bottom right. Click the italics 'i' icon and "turn on streaming info" after you back out of this submenu to thetrack playing, it should should show your device capability in the bottom left. It should say:"Device Capability: 24bit/ 192Khz"Your done!! 👍Hope this saves some frustration and helps someone out there.. Enjoy

Underpowered and out of sync audio, confusing, micro-usb (not usb-c)
I was hopeful for this product. Disappointed and I'll be looking for another option.Problem 1: Less a problem other than annoying and potentially misleading if this is important to you. The Amazon listing (as of writing this) does not mention power supply. The pictures of the device seem to show a micro-USB shaped port but show a USB-C cable. The device arrived with a micro-USB port and cable but the manual talks about USB-C repeatedly.Problem 1: Confusing setup. Lots of small switches to figure out what settings you need. For someone who KNOWS video settings, that may not be a problem. For the average user, its a bit overwhelming. If that was the only problem, I'd probably have still given it 5 stars and just done more reading. But the instruction manual is SEVERELY lacking and problematic. For example, one line reads "Hold 5 seconds till input LED blinks 3 times as RESET..." but doesn't tell you what to hold and there is no RESET button. There is an update button that is not referenced anywhere in the manual.Problem 3: Audio issues. I cannot get the audio to sync. The audio coming through the HDMI out cable has a quarter second or so delay compared to the audio coming out of the 3.5mm jack. I cannot find any way to adjust and sync this. Further, the audio out from the 3.5mm jack is lower volume. All in all, I would not purchase this again and would not recommend it unless you know EXACTLY what you are looking for and this actually fits that.

Not sure how to set it up
I intended to use this to pull the audio track from a DVD player that only had an HDMI output, but found another solution. It is a solid little module, with an aluminum case. It is a little intimidating to try to decipher how it needs to be set up for those who aren't familiar with all of the terminology. The included instructions are for those more experienced than I am. A few application examples of how it can be used would be beneficial.

Works great for getting audio from old TV to Amp
I have a bit of a unique setup for my patio TV and this is a perfect piece of the puzzle to get audio and video outside.I was gifted an older TV and installed it on my patio. My original plan was to run a cable inside to connect to my Sonos Amp so I could get audio through my patio speakers. Unfortunately the TV does not have audio out (hard to believe but true), so I was not able to connect to the Sonos. In comes an HDMI wireless transmitter (Search B0DHGND2V3 for the one I used) paired with this HDMI audio extractor to be able to get audio through sonos.I have my Chromecast hooked up to the audio extractor, then use an headphone to RCA cable to connect to the Sonos Amp (This is the old one, newer one has optical cable I believe but would still work). I then connect the HDMI transmitter to the other side of the HDMI audio extractor, and connect the receiver to the TV along with the USB cable and viola, audio via Sonos along with the Chromecast now living inside which hopefully means it lasts longer. This is the perfect solution for any device that doesn't have optical or RCA audio out and you need it to connect to an external sound source.
