Recording and Producing in the Home Studio: A Complete Guide

I am a professional musician and composer who aced my production training a few years ago. I wanted a refresher course, as I feel like a beginner producer, due to not having any opportunities to produce my own music until now. I purchased a well known online audio production course at the same as purchasing this book. (The course I am referring to doesn't recommend this book as course materials - I found it independently.)I found that had I purchased this book alone, I would have saved myself quite a lot of money. It has all the info I need, provided in a more concise way than that of the course. David's writing style is easy going. His credentials make him a credible and worthy teacher. I'm happy that I came across his book.I would recommend this book to those who may have had previous production experience, and those who may simply require a detailed summary and explanation of production techniques.

This book is a GREAT wealth of information for those just starting out as well as studio veterans that are looking for a good overall review to studio music recording. This book does an excellent job in describing nearly every aspect of the recording process and does so without being too esoteric or technical. Not to say it doesn't explain the technical aspects of studio recording, because it definitely does! It's just that he explains it succinctly and in an easy to understand way. I have learned a lot about studio recording from all sorts of sources, from books such as this one, to online articles and studio recording forums etc. This book is the best source I've found personally. I reference it often and have reread most chapters at least twice to help solidify the knowledge in my head.I highly recommend this book!

David Franz has produced another gem of a book. His first book, "Producing in the Home Studio With Pro Tools" is required reading for anybody who wants to learn how to record, mix and master with Pro Tools. This book is a great complement to David's first book. It is comprehensive, easy to read and filled with great insights. For those who don't have time or can't afford to take David's online classes at Berklee College of Music, this book will give you a solid foundation for learning how to get the most out of your home studio.

There is some useful information in there but here in 2017 it is a) outdated; b) pretty dry reading; c) very basic. I did like the end that talked specifically about recording technique suggestions and the use of effects like EQ and compression. That was actually useful.

Required reading for a class I'm taking. Very well written manual. Learning a lot from it.

This book is written in clear, concise sections that will be helpful to any novice, mid-level or advanced recordist. It's not necessary to read it cover to cover, you can skip to sections that apply to your immediate conundrum. I have highlighted sections and referred to this book on many occasions. Very good reference.

Covered a lot of the basics and beginnings to producing in home and in studio. This book had a lot of applicable training.

The book is written based on mechanical recording ( tape recorder) and it would be better if the starting point for today’s home recording was a DAW ( digital audio workstation) such as LogicPro, Cubase, ProTools or even GarageBand.

Il libro è ben fatto, abbastanza semplice da seguire e ci sono ottimi consigli soprattutto sul microfonaggio degli strimenti acustici ed elettrici.Mi aspettavo qualcosa in più sui cablaggi e sulle patchbay, ma non vi è molto a riguardo.Tutto sommato è un buon manuale per l'home recording.

Un libro basico, con todo lo que hay que saber para aprovechar tu home studio y te da las bases para , si tu quieres, profundizar mas en el ambito de la produccion musical.
