Imaginative Poems I loved as child
I loved Shel silverstein poetry as a child. Now I get to share it with my Grandkids. Shel's poems are thought provoking and his imagery encourages the growth of imagination. This poems are still light enough to be a first introduction for kids to the world of poetry without being overwhelming, but fun instead.

One of the best books out there!
Brings back so many memories from my childhood that this is my go to baby shower gift for expectant mothers. Love that it's a book of poems which is convenient to read a few at a time or as many as you want. It is also a geat book for kiddos to read on their own as they get older.

This Endearing Sidewalk Never Ends
My son won this Silverstein book when he was in 3rd grade, over forty years ago. It has always been our favorite to quote. "Spaghetti over my elbows and up to my face." or "Sara Slyvia Cnythia Stout never took the garbage out..." are fun reminders in everyday life of the messes we get to clean up...you know what I mean. The cover is grey, but the words are everlasting joy in our family.

This is the essence of my childhood
WARNING: Don't read this with your kids if you don't want to create nice, lovely memories with them!!My dad used to read these poems to me before bedtime and he'd do all the silly voices and facial expressions necessary to make a little kid laugh. When I started reading, we'd read them out loud together, my dad patiently coaching me through the tricky words and pronunciations. I can still feel that warm glow of love inside my chest 30 years later when I read "The Dirtiest Man in the World," "Gumeye Ball," or "The Sitter" (my dad's favorite). Needless to say, I own multiple Silverstein books and have given them to many friends when they're expecting. To all the people saying Shel's poems are "too scary for kids" -- it's not a secret that his whole vibe is ABSURDISM and WHIMSY. It's pure imagination expressed through words and drawings. If your kids don't understand those concepts, sharing goofy poetry with them is a great way to learn.
