UPDATE! CALIBRATE! it's very nicely put together. But it BROKE! I fixed it though.
UPDATE. In January '15 the gauge broke off the inflator rendering it useless. I had to leave for NC for an extended stay so I did not revisit this until now, in April. There is a design flaw in that the gauge dial is mounted on a 2 inch long plastic stem which goes into the handle. Even though this looks as if it is solid, it is not. There is a 1/16" gap between and around that fragile stem and the main body of the handle. I managed to lean on it or something and the gauge dial fell out! I could not return it so.......I figured out a way to fix it using an ordinary soda straw and some black RTV sealant. I inserted the straw into the stem up as far as it would travel. I cut the straw about 1/2" longer so it protruded out the stem and would mate with the remainder of the tube inside the body. I ran some RVT around the straw at the break so that the straw would stay in place and the RTV would seal at the mating surface. The straw would keep the sealant from running into and fouling the works. I then ran a good bead of sealant around the stem about 1/2" down from the dial so that when I inserted the thing into the handle, the RTV would "glue" the stem to the handle because it filled the errant gap. Let it cure for 48 hours and it works flawlessly again. I figure it's better than the original in that the stem is now solidly attached to the handle. It sounds complicated but if yours breaks, you will see how this all works. It's rather easy.UPDATE: As you know, it's been a dreadful winter so I have not used this too much. A few days ago I got ready to ride my bike so I wanted to check the pressure. I plugged this into the front tire and got a reading of 2.7psi???? I checked with my other gauges and got 38.5psi. Why the difference? I figured it was frozen and ruined by the sub zero temps it went through. That's when I noticed the red button had on it on/off/CALIBRATE. This came with no instructions at all so I was learning how it worked. One long press on the red button and the thing calibrated itself to the ambient temp and read 38.5psi! Now, each time I use it I long press the red button and it perfectly matches my digital every time. CALIBRATE! Keeps the numbers from getting wacky.Indoors, I used it to check my front tire from my motorcycle (yup mama let me keep it in the dining room for a while). I got a 38psi reading from this which was dead center of an old reliable dial gauge which showed 39psi and an Accutire digital which read 37psi. I have tried all the cheap inflators and they never really grip the threads on the Schrader valve well enough to make it a one hand operation. This one DOES grip it well and seals leaving your hand free and it's easy to let air out (push it halfway in) and put air in (push it all the way in). The orientation of the thumb press is much easier on the wrist than the pistol type grips and the gauge numbers are large and easy to read. Heavy quality construction with a textured grip. This makes it really easy to get a reading in my GL1800 rear tire which is tucked in under the saddlebags. Out in the cold, it seemed to read about 2 pounds high as per my other gauges, but it was consistent which is the most important part of using one (you can do the math easily if need be).I spent less on this than I did on all the cheap three or four I've bought over the years if you add them all up so if it lasts - good news. Yes, I did tell my wife she was right, I should have bought a "good" one to begin with (which is why I can put my front wheel in the dining room I suspect).

Works well but could be better
I bought this item to replace a similar, but larger, Astro Pneumatic digital tire pressure gauge. First of all, my main beef with both of these tools is that the auto shutoff happens too quickly. I'm a professional auto technician and I check/adjust the tire pressure on every car I service. You just *can't* get all the way around a car and use the gauge without it shutting off mid-measurement several times. What a hassle. It should have a 2 or 3 minute on time instead of 30 seconds.Second gripe: the instruction sheet that comes with the inflator is comically bad. As another commenter said, there's no info about changing the battery. In fact there's no mention of the unit having a battery at all. How do I take it apart to replace the battery? What battery does it take? I'd like to have a replacement on hand, you know...What you do get on the instruction sheet is a laboratory-ideal schematic of how to lay out your air compressor system. Compressor, pressure regulators, automatic oilers, *refrigerated air dryer* all shown. Come on now...Thirdly, the gap between the paddle and the unit body is too large so you can pinch palm flesh in there. I did this a couple of times when I first used the tool and it was unpleasant. I've since learned to avoid the problem by holding the tool differently but the design should be better.I do like that this tool is smaller than the Astro tool and that it doesn't have a battery-wasting display illumination feature. It could/should be better though. Anyone who uses the thing professionally would immediately notice these drawbacks.

Tool works good but the one I got didn't work at all
Tool works good but the one I got didn't work at all, so I found out were the batt. (#2032) was and thought maybe it was not making good contact so I remove and cleaned both sides and then replaced, now it's working just fine. The on time should be a lot long but it is what it is. Made of good heavy material. I like the way you can adjust the air in the tire by using the push handle ( all the down putting air in, and if you put to much air in then half way letting air out ) So far it is working good. Had too figure out how to change or find the Battery by pushing the rubber back on the gauge to get to the two screws on the back to open the case. The hose end stays on the tire till you hit the release.

Just what I was looking for.
I have been using an inexpensive, analog style inflator like this for years. The rubber coating on my current inflator recently split, leaving it kind of loose and I was starting to question its reliability. The needle would stick from time to time and hence a desire for a digital product that didn't break the bank. It's an older model to a competitors brand (red and blue) that can be found here on Amazon.I love the ability to inflate, check psi, deflate all without changing a tool. This was all a must in my search for a new inflator. Not to mention the hands free, inline, clip-on air chuck. The clip-on air chuck of my previous inflator was of the ball chuck design and if I wasn't careful, would scratch the sensitive surface of auto rims. That's kind of a sensitive subject for me. :)Even though I have only used it once, on two vehicles, it's exactly what I was searching for. Let's hope it last the test of time. With Amazon Prime, shipping was as expected and arrived as noted.

Two stars
Bought this and a Viair 77P portable compressor, thinking I would be able to use them together. I have no experience with air tools, having bought this and the compressor to keep my car tires at the proper psi. 1) No connector supplied, or information on what type of connector is required. 2) Instruction sheet says a regulated air supply is needed. Is a portable compressor a regulated air supply? I wish the instructions would have clarified this for me. 3) If the amazon description would have mentioned this information or let me know if it's not compatible with portable compressors (or compressors without air tanks?), I would not have bought this product.
