Rory McEwen: The Colours of Reality

I knew before I bought Rory McEwen's book that I would love it as several of my friends had already aquired it. He was such a gifted artist and his paintings are exquisite. He can make one decaying leaf, one flower, an insect or a single petal the subject of the painting in it's own right as he expertly depicts in the finest detail the colours, tones and textures. His work is an inspiration to me and to many of my friends involved in botanic art

One of the most beautiful books I have ever seen. A "must have" for any botanical art library. Many color plates. Great printing and binding with nice thick pages. The content of the book is breath taking. The quality of the actual physical book is outstanding in terms of cover, binding, printing and paper. A real work of art!

Beautiful! This book focuses on the artwork but includes a lot of information about Rory McEwen's other talents and musical accomplishments, too. I would recommend this book first, and then Christiana McEwen's touching essay (which has been published as a book with reproductions of some of his paintings). It is inspiring to learn about this sensitive, talented, good-hearted person.

If you are into botanical illustration this is a must have.

Anyone interested in Botanic Art would love the illustrations. A very gifted person, fascinating story.Rory's craftmanship, use of colour and composition are amazing.

Amazing book, excellent reproductions of the works of a true master. If you like botanical illustration, you need this book.

I wasn't sure about purchasing this book because I didn't know how many botanical illustrations were in it. It has plenty of very good plates, and the text is very interesting too

I have been interested in Rory McEwen's work for many years and so was delighted to but this book and find out so much about his artistic and musical talent. His wonderful eye for detail.I thought it was marvelous

This book is full of the most beautiful Botanical Studies ever. Portrayed as they were produced, ie a tiny rose bud in the corner of a large otherwise blank page. To my mind they have an almost magical quality,the precision and accuracy required for this genre of artwork is most certainly there, along with an extra ingredient I can't define. The story of how he lived, how he painted and his music career all combine to give an insight of this multi talented man. From beginning to end the book encompasses some of Rory McEwens life and work gloriously.

If you are interested in the artwork by Rory McEwen, this is a wonderful book to get. It also has a lot of information about the other sides of his life, like the music shows he did for TV. What an amazing and creative man and what a pity that he is no longer with us. The book is a celebration of his life.

Interesting biographical information and some brilliant reproductions of some of his work. Brilliant man, taken too young.

This is a beautiful book with wonderful colour plates. It is truly inspirational if you are an aspiring botanical artist. His composition and use of space creates stunning studies. I love the dying leaves!

This will provide inspiration to many a budding water colourist!
