Pinocchio
It is hard to believe that this original Disney animation of Pinocchio is almost 80 years old – made in 1940 – yet it still holds the same appeal for my grandchildren, nieces and nephews as it did for me when I watched it as a child many years ago. Telling the story of Geppetto, a woodcarver who makes a puppet, Pinocchio, as a substitute son, this is a magical, colourful film with great songs and a life lesson. After a fairy brings Pinocchio to life he must earn the right to be a human boy by being honest, kind and good. However, Pinocchio soon learns that being a boy brings lots of challenges and adventures, some good, some not so good. A timeless classic which is enjoyable for all generations to share, remember or learn from. 5*

Only strings related to this movie are the heartstrings it pulls at...
Pinocchio' benefits from one of the finest collection of songs to grace a Disney cartoon; from 'I Got No Strings', to 'An Actor's Life For Me', and (best of all) 'When You Wish Upon A Star' - brilliant sung by 'Ukelele Ike' Edwards as Jiminy Cricket. This cute adaptation from Carlo Corolli's classic novel adds pets with the 'awwww’ factor (cat and fish), as well as a truly scary sequence involving donkeys on Pleasure Island. The characters are all memorable and Pinocchio is convincing in his move from a wooden puppet to a real boy, even in cartoon form. Good voice talent from Evelyn Venable as the Blue Fairy too, especially in the bits where Pinocchio can't help revealing he isn't telling the truth!Short, sweet, funny, dark and involving, everything to pull at your heartstrings, 'Pinocchio' is worth anybody's time, young or old. Definitely recommended 5⭐️

An excellent film (DVD) for children of 7+ years.
I saw this film when it first came out in UK., mid 1940's. Was pleased with it then and now, following much technical work on it, I find it is perfect viewing with top quality clarity in both picture and sound. The story was of course how I remember it and am not disappointed in any way. I am not too sure that children under 7 should see it without adults around but thinking about what they do watch these days, perhaps I am wrong. A bit scary at times I think for very young children. Disney at their best!

Couldn't recommend this enough.
THIS is the film which got me appreciating Disney as a late twenty-something.From the sheer beauty of the opening song by Cliff Edwards whose vocal magnificence turned a brilliant song into a timeless classic, which is now Disney's theme, through to the actual story and magical conclusion.Extras are great, for £8 this was a steal. Not sure there is a better overall Disney film.
