Coghlan's Bear Bell with Magnetic Silencer

I use these bells for my German Pointers who got into the habbit of finding deer in the woods and then giving chase, lucky they will always break the chase when i use a dog whistle. These bells stop the need for that as they give the deer enought notice to hide or move on and since the dogs have had the bells on their collars they have not been able to find a single deer. The bells are well made and make a good sound (as long as this does not bother your dogs which it doesnt seem to with mine). A few people have said they lost the bells after a couple of days due to the velcro coming undone - I got round this by glueing the velcro fasten together and then i just thread the collor through the loop of the bell when I'm taking to dog out. My dogs wear these everytime they go out now and I have had a lot of comments from people saying what a good idea it is as it gives the wild life a chance when walking such quick dogs. Plus the beaty of these is when I get back to the car you just pull the magnetic tab over the bells and they cant ring anymore so they dont annoy you while driving. Very good product.

The bear bells are brilliant, I have finally found a stronger bell for my Labrador to wear when out on country walks as I was given advice by locals that the sound vibration from the bell prevents my dog getting bitten by any snakes basking in the summer sunshine!! I have tried large falconry bells but the constant movement makes them slowly open up and break. These bells are made of sterner stuff and hopefully will stand the test of time. Would definitely recommend to all dog owners. Well worth the money and if the ringing gets to you they come with a little magnet strap that holds back the pea!! Absolutely brilliant

I use this bell on my guide dog, so I know where he is and can hear when he's getting up to no good in the kitchen! The bell is perfect for this (I use a couple) but unfortunately the velcro doesn't last long; after a couple of months the bells tend to fall off his collar, and as I can't see it's difficult to find them. As other reviewers have said, the dodgy velcro issue can be solved using superglue, and thereafter removing the bell by threading it off the collar. That's a bit of a faff, but worth it to know where your dog is.

Fantastic bells, I use them on my dogs collar, the deer hear him coming and they run away before he sees them, never lost the dog once. I can hear wherever the dog is in bracken or trees , great value.

I bought these bells for my two sight hound dogs to wear on their collars.They give a great audible warning to wildlife,in particular rabbits, that they are on their way ! Also helps me to locate my dogs when they have gone 'off piste' in the woods ! Sight hounds aren't always easy ! The bear bells are well made with a velcro strap and useful magnet which folds down against the bell to 'silence' it. The actual bell is bigger than I thought, being the size of a smallish walnut. I have used falconry bells in the past, but these 'Coghlans' bells are more substantial and hopefully will last longer. I can't believe that they came all the way from the U.S.A. at such a reasonable price.Excellent service too.

This bell is OK - HOWEVER, I have a Springer Spaniel and I realised after a while that this bell is the cause of him returning from his romps in the woods with blood coming from his mouth! Having a long lollopy, tongue, it's getting caught in the bell when running like mad. Having said that, I still like it & have just modified it by covering up the larger openings at the top of the slits, which doesn't seem to affect it's performance much.

I use this instead of bell on my MTB, it works pretty great and I don't seem to get the stink eye that some walkers like to give bell users 😆

Bought to attach to our spaniels collar to know where she was in the woods. They can be heard from a long way away. The magnetic tab does reduce the sound considerably for use in the garden. Well made and swift delivery.

Mit Ehrfurcht und Begeisterung habe ich Berichte von Bekannten und Verwandten gehört, die durch die Wälder der USA oder Kanadas liefen, wanderten bzw. mit dem Fahrrad gefahren sind. So eine Coghlan's Bär Glocke mit Schalldämpfer gehört da zur Standardausrüstung, um von heimtückischen, sich meist lautlos von hinten anschleichenden Bären (Grizzly, Schwarzbären...), verschont zu bleiben. Vorausgesetzt, man hat den Schalldämpfer nicht aktiviert. Eine Tasse oder eine Topf aus Blech in Kombination mit einen Löffel am Bindfaden (außen am Wandergepäck befestigt) sollen ebenso wirksam, wie auch stylisch sein. Dieses Problem stellt sich hierzulande (noch) nicht. Allerdings sind die neuen Fahrräder und E-Bikes beim Fahren so leise, dass man als Radfahrer in urbanen Gegenden im Grundrauschen des Verkehrs fast ständig am Klingen ist. Andere Verkehrsteilnehmer, Tagträumer, nicht-, voll- und teilverstöpselte Smombies... müssen gewarnt und dezent auf das anrollende Fahrrad aufmerksam gemacht werden. Schließlich gilt es, unnötige Empörungen (offensichtliches eigenes Fehlverhalten wird meist geschickt mit: "Hast wohl keine Klingel am Fahrrad?", pariert) und Kollisionen zu vermeiden sowie das Fahrziel sicher zu erreichen. Ich finde die Idee aus den Alpen, mit dem Glöckchen oder gar der echten Kuhglocke (letztere vermutlich ein bisschen zu gewaltig für den Rahmen und vielleicht auch irreführend) am Mountainbike beim Downhill, gut. So können die meist harmlosen Wanderer, Sommerfrischler, Kurgänger etc. gerade noch rechtzeitig vor dem Einschlag des "unausweichlich" oder schlimmer dahinschießenden Fahrrad-Protagonisten informiert werden und somit geschickt ihr zeitnahes Handeln daran ausrichten. Außerdem passt deren Klang (in entlegenen Teilen des Landes meist sorgfältig von Meisterhand gestimmt) ausgezeichnet in die Gegend. Mit dem mitgelieferten Klettband montiere ich mittlerweile (aufgrund gewonnener Erfahrungen) Coghlan's Bär Glocke mit Schalldämpfer nur noch unter dem Sattel des eigenen Fahrrades. Die Glocke ist optisch und akustisch moderater als eine Tasse oder eine Topf mit Löffel. (Die Glocke ist natürlich kein Ersatz für eine behördlich zugelassene Fahrradklingel und sollte als solche auch nicht verwendet werden!) Die unvermeidlichen Unebenheiten des Weges führen auch beim Fahren im langweiligen Flachland/Stadtgebiet zum Schellen der Glocke. Der Klang ist nicht unbedingt unangenehm, jedoch verwarf ich bald nach der ersten Ausfahrt die weitere Befestigung am eigenen Lenker. Ich durfte feststellen: Der Klang und das Gebimmel wird nicht nur selbst, sondern auch von den anderen Menschen wahrgenommen und führt insgesamt zu mehr Achtsamkeit. Es gibt z.T. für den Radfahrer gefährliche Ausnahmen, wie spontan rechtsabbiegende oder auf dem Fahrradweg parkende Kraftfahrer in geschlossenen Kabinen bei laufenden Verbrennungs-Motoren - Zero Klang-Wahrnehmung). Somit ist der Zweck des Gebimmels wenigstens bei einem Teil der Verkehrsteilnehmer erreicht, die sich auf den nahenden Radfahrer einstellen können. Aber man kann sich leider nicht darauf verlassen! Als Radfahrer, das liegt in der Natur der Sache, ist man zumeist der schwächere Verkehrsteilnehmer. Es führt an der Benutzung der klassischen Fahrrad-Klingel kein Weg vorbei. Falls die akustisch-nervliche Selbst-Belastung des Radfahrers zu stark wird, kann man durch Anlegen des am Klettband befestigten Magneten das Gebimmel zuverlässig zum Erliegen bringen. Um bei diebischen Glocken-Liebhabern keine Begehrlichkeiten zu wecken, ist eine Demontage und sichere Verwahrung beim öffentlichen Abstellen des Fahrrades geboten. Mit dem Klettband ist es doch so einfach, die Glocke abzunehmen! (Fazit: Falls ich doch einmal eine Kanada-Reise plane, habe ich jetzt schon ein wichtiges Accessoire und muss es für die Dauer der Reise nicht zweckentfremdet weiter am Fahrrad nutzen ;-).. Übrigens, ist Coghlan's Bär Glocke mit Schalldämpfer, richtig verpackt und in einen Kontext gesetzt, ein originelles Geschenk. Preis-Leistung stimmen, kaufen!
