Very good for the money
For 139 this microscope does almost every thing your could want and appears to be very good quality. Comes with a 2-pin plug for the light, as mentioned in other reviews, but I had an old shaver\toothbrush plug adapter which it fitted. My Schuko adapter did not fit. I also purchased some rubber eye pieces and I am trying to order a 60x 160 objective to replace the 100x oil objective, hopefully that will work. This flexibility is one of the advantages of getting a 4-objective standardised system. Comes with a plastic dust cover but no hard case, other than the polystyrene packaging. I haven't used the 20x eyepiece as it gives false magnification at the top end and is probably only of use to give 200x in between the 100x and 400x. I debated about paying more for a trinocular scope but at £100 more for very little-used functionality decided against it. The scope came fully assembled but with no usage instructions, so if you are new to these I would recommend viewing some youtube videos to understand the features, e.g. the condenser aperture, and the practical experiments you can do with it. While very much personal taste I like the look of the scope - it looks utilitarian and professional, more like a scientific tool than like a toy, and therefore seems to get a more respectful treatment from my just-started-secondary-school children. Overall I am very happy with the purchase and I hope it will last a long time.

Good Quality microscope made out of metal
I don't have experience with any other proper microscope so I can only make comparisons with my son's children microscope. Obviously this is a lot more expensive than children microscope but it has metal construction throutout so it's very sturdy. Most importantly the clarity is classes above, the focus is crisp and clear up to 400x magnification. However I find it hard to focus and to get a clear picture once I go above 400x. It could be just me not able to get it to work properly. Also the 100x scope is quite tricky with pound water as it needs oil and to be pressed down onto the slide in order for it to work. Other than that it does not come with a manual, though with some searching online you should be able to find a PDF version, the model number is M82ES. It also doesn't come with an UK power adapter. With that aside I would say this microscope definitely worth the money as both of me and my young son enjoy and the microscope itself can potentially last well into his young adult years due to its sturdy construction.

Reasonable microscope for beginners or school science
Use for my microbiology study, will be nicer if it comes together with slabs and instructions.

Value and quality
Optics are about as clear as you will get for the money. With an iris diaphragm and oil 100x it’s a pro set up. Love this scope!

Great quality, superb for price range
This scope is great quality. I use professional scopes by day in my work (embryologist) but wanted something to enjoy pond water at home. This certainly doesn’t disappoint! In the UK it comes with an EU 2 pin plug, but with some helpful tech support from seller, I established that a simple adapter would work. Can’t wait to get an eyepiece camera to take some decent photos, but this poor quality photo of an amoeba was taken by hovering my iPhone over the eyepiece! Shut down the diaphragm almost fully to get best contrast.

Awesome microscope! I made my own darkfield by cutting a piece of clear thick plastic the same size as the green filter a I glued a 10 cent in the center and inserted it in place of the green filter in the filter holder and it works, so I am glad that this microscope has a filter holder. Making these darkfield patch stop filter is easy and fun to do as an experiment. Google "DIY DIC filter" and you will find plenty of references how to make such filter. I have also order some COL filters from ebay and this give the similar effect as with DIC, which give depth to the microorganisms as shown in my attached photo of a Closterium algae taken with the 20x objective and my little DIY DIC filter. The picture was taken through my cellular phone so not a very good one. The M82ES is bright and easy to use. It came well packed and required minimal assembling, which was only to put the base of the eyepiece in place and tighten a little screw, then to insert the eyepieces. Everything else was pre-assembled. I was afraid that the inter-ocular distance of 55 mm was not going to work for me because I am a small person with a small distance between my eyes but it still work (although 53mm would be best) at 55 mm and watching the microscope with a binocular is so much easier on the eyes than with my previous monocular! I will order the eye cups as it will make viewing even easier. The microscope only come with a thin plastic dust cover so I will order the vinyl carrying case to protect it. Although I like this microscope a lot, if I was not on such tight budget I would have bought the Omax M8311 trinocular (363$) instead because not only does it have a dedicated port for a camera, but it is much more upgradable. My only complain with the M82ES is that it does not have a lot of possibility to upgrade. There is a darkfield condenser available but no phase contrast or no Kohler either. For anyone not wishing to have these options in the future, then it's not a big deal, but if you wish to have a microscope that can be upgraded and grown with you, this one is not the best. Also the M8311 has an interocular distance of 48mm to 75mm, which is much better than the 55mm of this microscope. 55mm is ok for most adults but I suspect that kids would have a bit if trouble with this.

(UPDATED REVIEW) This is an update to the review below. I must state that, after I wrote the first review I was immediately contacted by OMAX customer support. To be honest, I am not sure how they got my phone number...I assume through my Amazon account. A "tech" called and left a message. He stated that he would be happy to try a few things to get the microscope working properly. Unfortunately, I had already packed and mailed the first microscope back to the factory so it was too late. I agree with some reviewers that the microscope needs to come with a BASIC instruction manual. I am not a first time user of microscopes so it assembled with ease. However, I am sure some people would really need a basic guide. My second microscope arrived and is working PERFECTLY. Thanks! Thanks to OMAX for the amazing customer support and for reading the reviews on Amazon. It really shows they care! I have not had the same luck with their competitor Amscope. They were quite rude to me when I needed assistance. (BEGIN ORIGINAL REVIEW) When the microscope arrived I was really exited and began to assemble it immediately. One of the FIRST things I noticed, while assembling, was that the lens at the base of the viewing scope (the one that faces down when you attach the viewing head to the base with the knurled locking screw)was glued in place at a slight angle. It wasn't flush in the hole that the lens was supposed to go in and there was a large glob of glue (optic cement) on the side. I desperately wanted this NOT to be an issue and, when I first started using the scope...it didn't seem to be. Then, as I increased magnification more and more, I began to notice that focus was IMPOSSIBLE at 1000x or 2000x magnification. I tried slide after slide and to check the focus. I could NEVER get a clean or crisp focus and I became fully aware that this lens placement was the issue. So, with a heavy heart, I decided that this microscope HAD to be exchanged. I am going to order another one of these microscopes because I am SURE that the first one suffered from human error during the manufacturing process and feel the microscope, if built properly, must be a good product from all that I have read. So, here we go again...
