I wasn't really expecting it. Not from the shorter novellas (SA and Phantom both just GOT me). Here we have a travelling carnival with scary attractions. During the earlier, lighter hours, it's a place for carnival foods and fun rides and games. Once the darkness hits, the haunted and scare houses all open up for play time and that's when the magic really happens. Enter Sibel, AKA Sibby, the painted up dolly who enjoys creeping behind walls of her own little dollhouse haunted house, keeping from being seen while she ferrets out the evil in the world. She can smell it. Their evilness. And once she's made judgement calls on just how to deal with them, which is usually a long, drawn out unal!ving, the path is set and nothing can distract her from it. Until Zade comes along and makes her see something flawed in her plans. His scent is similar, but not the same. And it throws her for a loop. Her and her henchmen waste no time in rounding up the men that Zade ends up needing to get information out of, however, and things still move forward, but at a cost. That's the quickest, and easiest synopsis I can give without giving it all away and trust me when I say, there's a level of spice in here that makes it all seem so much crazier than I've even said in here. Amazing. Dark. Spicy. And a dash of danger. Ok, a big dash. So worth the read. Review: Dark and twisty - "Don't enter the den of wolves and ask not to be bitten." We travel the country, offering terrifying haunted houses, thrilling rides and the tastiest food. And with every passing town, I cleanse the world, one execution at a time. I hide within the walls, casting my judgment for those that reek of evil, singing lullabies to their rotting souls. Once you've been chosen, there's no escaping my henchmen-they cater to my every desire. You can run and you can hide, but it only excites me. Come. Take a walk through my dollhouse, where your screams will blend and your cute little pleas will go unanswered. So I have heard amazing things about H.D. Carlton and I have been wanting to really delve into the dark romance genre. Well I would say this book was a good way to start that. I mean it pretty much commits to be dark, dirty, and nasty from the start. Yet, I enjoyed it. I loved that the main character doing the killing was a female. I loved the brief backstory we got for her in a short novella. I felt like this book gave me just enough information to understand the characters while also leaving me wanting more. I will say this book is incredibly graphic and lucky for me I love horror movies and psychological thrillers because this sort of reads like one. Sibby is a little bit childlike but also a stone cold killer so it was an interesting dynamic. I will say that trigger warnings should be read for this novella. I had a few times I was icked out but my god Carlton is a beautiful writer. I was so engrossed in the story and want to know more about Zade. So why four stars? I was going to give it five for the shocking reveal at the end alone... until it left me hanging with the final paragraph and now I don't know the final outcome. But seriously I look forward to reading more books by H.D. Carlton!

I'm not reading this again. Nope. Not happening.
I went back and forth between the ebook and the audio version of this book. I finished this book through the audio version. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– This book provides more information about how Zade Meadows from the "Cat and Mouse" duet meets Sibel in the first book. It also provides more of Sibby's background and how she ended up at the Satan's Affair fair. ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––– I immediately didn't like Sibby. Like, IMMEDIATELY. I had to suspend my disbelief about her actions at many points in this book. I'm not surprised at how things ended at all in the end, and I hate how it ended. I don't like cliffhangers, and I've made that pretty obvious over the past year or so. I feel the same way about this book. I wanted more than what we got, but I suppose it was kept open-ended so H.D. could go back and add more later. I should also say that I haven't read "Hunting Adeline", so I suppose there could also be more about Sibby in that book, and I've heard this is the case, but I still want more about what happened between this book and when she shows up in "Hunting Adeline". I suppose I should read that book next. lol I do like the addition of Z in this book, but I missed Adeline, but that's just me. I'm glad this book is as short as it is because my attention span was shot. I struggled to get through the book, so I rated it the way I did. I feel like this book had a lot of potential, but I feel like it fell short of my expectations. That's why I'm hesitating on recommending this book unless you're already a fan of the author. I know this book isn't everyone's cup of tea, and that's perfectly okay with me. It's not my cup of tea. Yikes!

I wasn’t expecting the graphics scenes, but as a horror movie fan I was thrilled it with. Carlton mixes well the grotesque, the sexy and the “flashback” parts, and even though you know Sibby is technically wrong you still cheer for her! The plot twist left me shocked for a few minutes, and it was so good! It remembers me of my favorite movie. I think the only “complain” I’ve about the book it’s not having a Portuguese version to share it my friends. (Also, the waiting that starts now to read Sibby’s next adventure)

What an amazing read it was! Surprising, thrilling, addicting and other awesome adjectives you know in your vocabulary is what this book was. I loved Sibby, i loved her henchmen, I loved Zade's appearance in it! I adored him in this book... almost felt like a human doing a good job!!

For being only ~150 pages, this novella is jam packed with action, sensuous scenes, and even a wild plot twist at the end (epilogue). I thought HD Carlton did a great job with Sibby and made her such an interesting character. The storyline was good and kept my interest the whole way through! I flew through this and loved every second of reading it. Before you get this novel, please do your homework and check the trigger warnings (there are a lot) and consider whether or not this style of book is for you. If you enjoy horror/erotica, this may be perfect for you!
