Meerkats - The Movie [DVD]

Enjoyable to watch. Meerkats are cute amusing creatures. The film did well to capture each meerkat personality and tenacity.

I suppose like most of the country people have seen the TV advert for car insurance and the Meerkats, I watched the meerkats before this on Meerkat Manor and fell in love with them, I like animal programmes anyway, but the meerkats are something special and this dvd is no exception.It is brilliant filmed with incredible colours but that aside it is the meerkats who are the real stars as you would expect them to be in this dvd you will not be disappointed, ok it not David Attenborough but the voice over is just as informative.This dvd represents good value for money and as you would expect with an dvd on the meerkats it has it all excitement, danger, love especially when they are all in a burrow and an older meerkat actually sleeps with it paw ( arm ) around a younger meerkat, how they are prepared to lay down their lives for the benefit of the group and somtimes do.Its a dvd for the adults and its a dvd for the children it represents good value for money.

A family of meerkats struggle to survive in the Kalahari desert. The movie focus on one baby meerkat, named Kolo, from his birth to 1 year and all the adventures he has along the way. From the early days of his life at 3 weeks old when he takes his first steps outside the burrow he encounters battles with snakes, eagles and other beasts. Life appears to lunge Komo from one drama to another, in an attempt to stave off starvation, and keep out of the jaws of hungrey preditors. An older meerkat in the pack shows him how it's done. When separated from his family due to a battle with another tribe of meerkats, komo is forced to sleep alone undergrown. A scary experiance for a pack animal. But soon he is pushing on over the dangerous sun-baked desert in search of his family. When he encounters a pride of lions, one wrong step could have him spotted and gobbled up for lion dessert. However, quick thinking komo waits for the pack to rest before racing across land to return to his adoring family. Thank-goodness he was brave enought to tackle live scorpion for breakfast. Once back with his family it's not long before the next litter of baby meerkats arrives, but this time it's komo who is called along to teach the little ones the ropes of survival in the African wilderness.

Very good movie

Purchased this for my 3 year old son after he watched a friends copy and enjoyed it. To be honest, I was amazed he liked this as it is a wildlife documentary as he usually watches Pixar or Dreamworks films. However, as this is educational, it is great that he does love it and he gets particularly excited when the snake enters the Meerkat's tunnels. He watches the whole film and never gets bored so even if you think this may not appeal to your child, I would recommend getting it as it is inexpensive and they may just love it.

Purchased this for my father at Christmas as he loves meerkats. We ended up watching it as a family and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is well made and has some great cinematography as well as telling a nice story. A worthwhile purchase.

The Christmas present receiver is still overwhelmed by the film and the subject matter. The Meerkat Collection is likely to be the next few Seasonal Gifts over the next year or two. I have not seen them, but the receiver of them as presents is very truthful and honourable!!
