Andrew Marr's History of Modern Britain [DVD] [2007]

This is easily the best DVD that covers the history of modern Briain. I am currently studing AS level modern history and I highly recommened this DVD for revision purposes. Andrew Marr goes into great detail on all of the important events of the past 60 years, and it actually goes in unlike starring at a book for hours on end and then struggling to remember what you have just read. A great buy, for students, historians or anyone that is interested in the events after 1945.

This is a very good documentary.

Very interesting and thought provoking, especailly in these contemporary recession times, as I found the historial information relevant to understanding how our society evolved from post World War II shortages and hardships, to our present self indulgent, materialistic status. A great alternative dose of reality television, that will entertain and uplift the more enlightened viewer.The presentation by Marr is excellent, a little dramatic in places, but this helps to lighten the current affairs subject matter and liven the dated, but interesting film clips. Definately recommended.

I bought this DVD to brighten up revision for my A level British Politics and History exam. The DVD is a more gripping way of learning Politics which some people see to be a "dry" subject. The DVD is full of useful content and I found it most helpful. The actual DVD itself appears to be well made, it flows well and includes everything you would expect it too. I would reccomend this too anyone with a interest in History or Politics or anyone studying British Politics in the EDEXCEL specification.

These programmes were broadcast a year ago but remain fascinating episodes about GBs post war history. Marr is an entertaining presenter, mixing judicious comment with interesting anecdote. It is far better than his more recent series on the period between the wars. I recommend this thoroughly - even for my A level students. It is a well presented and valuable resource, with a book to match! Anyone interested in modern British history should watch the series. You will enjoy it immensely.

Even though was second hand, the dvd package was like new!

I have watched the series twice and whilst I enjoyed some aspects of it, I was irritated by Marr's left-wing bias which unfortunately made this a rather selective and distorted account of post-war Britain.

Very informative and interesting. A must see for all anglophiles.

This DVD is really great for many reasons: 1) Andrew Marr is a fantastic journalist able to capture the viewers since the beginning and to keep the attention very high; 2) he tells the British history we forgot or we didn't study at schools; 3) he doesn't make any discount to the reality of history. To view to learn, know and understand more not only of the UK.
