This is a little treasure of a book that packs a powerful punch!
In our world today where everything can seem so complex and overwhelming to the point of freezing one in their own tracks, Lowney shares wisdom gleaned through years of experience and reflection in his own life to help us live in the present moment in a simple, yet compelling way in “Make Today Matter”.We’ve all been given a unique set of gifts and we’re here at this time for a reason. Lowney encourages us to clarify our vision of what makes life meaningful and posits 10 simple daily habits that foster in us the ability to step up and lead so we can have a better life and help make the world a better place. The habits encapsulate common sense that are not frequently common practice. Lowney shares some simple ways to help make the proposed habits actionable and challenges the reader to make them personal by offering reflection questions at the end of each chapter to help the reader customize them and put them into practice. He also provides an elegantly simply frame regarding the Examen prayer to help us stay focused, “be” in the present and make simple adjustments when life pulls us in so many directions. It’s a great book to purchase for yourself or as a gift for a friend who may find themselves at an inflection point and needs encouragement, such as college graduates or those at mid-life or retirement. I’d highly recommend it.

Straightforward, succinct wisdom
Succinct, straightforward wisdom: Chris Lowney tells you where he's going (the 10 habits are on the dust jacket) then takes you there. Each Habit is illustrated with personal stories from a writer who is both erudite and accessible.Books like this are tricky. If you've already adopted all of the suggested habits, the book is superfluous; if you've adopted none, the book makes you feel like an abject failure (at least if you're over the age of 25). This book hit the sweet spot (for this reader) -- I already practice some of these habits, was easily persuaded to others, and found some of them fresh and thought-provoking. "Change your little part of the world," for instance, was uniquely valuable, and allowed me to view my life through a different lens.On the other hand, gratitude has been one of my long-standing goals; in Lowney's book, it gets its own chapter, and it quietly undergirds many of the other habits. Be thankful for what you have, be generous in sharing it, but push yourself and don't become self-satisfied with your blessings. That thread runs through the ten habits and the chapter that pulls them all together. Those who are new to this author and want more ought to sample "Everyone Leads," (a blueprint for revitalizing the Catholic Church); "Heroic Leadership," (a leadership treatise that yokes together the leadership principles of modern business and the Society of Jesus); and "A Lost World" (the multi religious era in medieval Spain).

Perfect for Baby Boomers
This book challenges the reader to view themselves through 20/20 vision. (It's been years for me since I've had that visual acuity.)It is a good beginning to live and assess our lives according the Ignatian (Jesuit) manner of daily examination.I started into it as if I would any book. It became abundantly clear that it was not a chapter book. It takes time to really think about life changes, some planned and others happen without warning. In my case, 9 years ago, my ex left after 30 years of marriage. Our sons were in college. I was left alone for the first time in my life. It was a brutal time, filled with many questions.Though it might have been nice to have this book then, it comes at the time when I am ready to read it.I also got a college ruled composition notebook to follow this spiritual journey. This is a great gift for anyone who is going through changes at an age when "it's not what I expected."

Simple, practical, relevant in 2018 and beyond
A good read for anyone looking to add meaning, peace and joy to their life. Some reviews have expressed that the book says nothing new. I differ. The value Iays in the simplicity and practicality of Chris’ writing. Most of the learning happens in your life as you apply the principles that he covers.
