Castle's Storm Front is the Best Ride of Bond-Like Fun and Hilarious Romance
I noticed Storm Front on display at my local library and I was intrigued to listen to it on audio CD because I was enduring long commutes.I didn't expect to enjoy the ride I got from this story as much as I did.I was pleasantly surprised at the quality caliber of the writing. I was a fan of the TV series, Castle, especially the first season. The character's edge of Beckett noticeably changed thought by season two and if truth be told I was a little disappointed in the softening edge that she became after season one. Still I picked the show back up a couple of seasons later and began to enjoy the cat and mouse romance written around the central murder drama. In particularly, I was attracted to the writing of Terence Paul Winter. His Castle story ideas were fresh, always with an original angle and always came with a funny, edgy repertoire of plot. This is what comes through in Storm Front. Who's writing this story…? I don't know. I do suspect a name or two, as hinted in the story's acknowledgement and guest appearances of bestselling authors on Castle. Nevertheless, the story doesn't disappoint. It begins with high profile murder, on a global scale. I hadn't read the previous Derrick Storm novels, and so I entered this tale's story without a familiar history except for what was referenced in Castle's story in the television series.Derrick Storm is resurrected thanks to the underpinnings of the CIA in this story. Storm is delightfully funny in a James Bond type of fashion and appeal. He follows the murders centered on high finance and international trade. The villain is apparently an old nemesis who has somehow survived a previous death event orchestrated by the story's strong hero, Storm. Not only do we travel around the world in this tale, but we also meet so many characters in between that are newly entertaining and so much fun to engage with in the story. These novels have found another fan; I will be seeking out the former stories and the continuing tales of Derrick Storm. It's such a great distraction and oh so much fun to just read about and enjoy! What better way to escape the real life complications of one's present day drama than to delve inside this dark and delightful tale of murder and espionage? This story gets all 5 stars. The writing is truly fun and engaging. It's been a great commute escape that I’ve had enduring the infamous sig-alerts of Los Angeles traffic. I’m very much looking forward to the next Derrick Storm novel!

Solid Effort by "Castle"
Everything by "Castle" is just a fun read. If you like the tv show, the Nikki Heat books, especially, are more of the same kind of writing. The Derrick Storm stories are very good, but the characters, including Derrick, seem less deep and less interesting than those in the Nikki Heat series. But this is still a fun, turn-your-brain-off-and-enjoy read. One thing that was so bad to me that it kinda takes you out of the story at times was the editing. There are lots of typos and strange breaks in words in the Kindle version. The broken up words are mostly just weird, like "pleasure" is almost always "plea sure". And "pilot" is quite a lot of fun for you math fans, appearing as "pi lot" nearly two dozen times. Most of the mistakes seem like carelessness with spell-checker. I would expect this of a self-published book, but I have to take points off for a major publisher like Hyperion, who knew they were gonna rake in the dough for this one. They could have spent a few hundred of those bucks having an editorial intern give it one more look before they published it. How embarrassing for Hyperion.

A pretty good tale
I couldn't quite get it more then four points for several reasons. 1. There was too much "action" for me , particularly the long drawn out fight scene. 2. I don't know anything about cage fighting, but don't the fighters take a break after being beaten to a pulp and before their next fight? Another words it seemed a bit unrealistic the way Derek storm got beaten on and kept coming back short time later . 3. I guess it's a man thing, which I'm not, but there was too much talk about cars and horsepower and makes and models for me . 4. I just couldn't figure out where Derek storm was getting his money from . I know he was getting a good amount of money each time he was hired by the CIA but he seemed to be too wealthy . Despite all that the story kept me engaged in wanting to read more .

Entertaining but corny
Enjoyed the book. The premise and flow made for a good, action filled read. But... the characters and dialogue belong in a cheesy 90's made-for-tv movie. I would've liked a little more backstory and build-out of Storm's character to really buy in.

A Storm I enjoyed weathering.
This book was a pulse-pounding thrill ride. It had all the trademarks of a great spy thriller. There is more than enough intrigue and action to satisfy most people. Derrick Storm is a fantastic character, he ranks with Gabriel Allon from Daniel Silva's novels as one of my favorite men of international intrigue. That having been said, I enjoyed the different twists this novel took, enjoying the red herrings and misdirects that were piled into this book. Taking elements from modern fears and concerns and mixing them with some Cold War style fears, this book is a great action tale. And for fans of the Castle's other series, look for a certain NYPD Detective and ruggedly handsome investigative journalist to make an appearance when Derrick stumbles onto a murder in New York.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story
I thoroughly enjoyed the story. That I am a huge Castle fan probably had a lot to do with it. The book started off a little "cookie-cutter" for my taste, but by the second chapter it had started to gather a momentum of its own, and by the third it was in full swing. I would recommend the book to anyone who likes the mystery genre. My only real complaint is the editing. I got the kindle version, so I do no know if the mis-spellings and mis-hyphenations exist in the paper version. It wasn't too distracting once I figured out what was happening. All in all, a very good read.

Awesome!
Loved this full-length Derrick Storm book. Unlike other reviewers I don't have car knowledge, so the book wasn't spoiled by any inaccuracies there, and I just approached the book as it's meant to be - a work of FICTION, to be enjoyed as fun and not taken seriously. Also loved the appearance of Nikki Heat etc, and the names from Castle series - lovely to have the tie-ins.Definitely recommend this book for Castle fans who've wondered what the Derrick Storm books would be like, and who can enjoy it as a bit of fun fiction. Can't wait to read the next!

Boring and unbelievable
I have tried very hard to like this book after all they are very popular, but I hate to say it failed for me in so many ways. The writing style is lazy and simplistic. The main character/Hero is just too good to be true. Secondary characters are pulled out of the how to write characters to make your main character loom good hand book, they aren't even 2 dimensional flat and boring is being generous.I gave it 3 stars because I don't believe so many others can be wrong maybe it's just me. I won't be bothering with this author again.

Before Nikki Heat a Storm was brewing.
Pretty good for a book written by a fictional author.Like most books, there's some minor errors, but this has one big one. Since when did any v12 jaguar have front wheel drive? The only car jaguar built with front wheel drive was the x-type, and most of those were 4-wheel drive. But Castle is American, so what would he know about cars...If you like the tv series, or secret agent films, you'll probably love this.

Castle fans will enjoy this
All action story from Richard Castle - alleged best selling author currently with his own TV series (on Alibi in UK) - recreates his main character in this new Derrick Storm full length thriller. If you are a fan of Castle you will laugh out loud at the allusions to the Tv series, if not you can enjoy it anyway. As to who really wrote this - your guess is as good as mine - but Andrew W Marlowe creator of the Castle series is a hot favourite.

Surprisingly good.
If you love the Castle programme or associated Nikki Heat books this will slot in nicely. It’s well written with a equal measure of action and romance. I’ll be buying the 2nd book to see what other adventures Derrick Storm gets up to.
