My Story 1: and the World around Me

Eh, it's fine
I'll start by saying that my 6 year old loves this book! It's not my favorite because there's really only any meat to it on day 1 of each week. We very quickly started doing what we wanted from each week in one day. The rest seems like busy work (coloring sheet, word find, copying vocabulary, then repeat). It's nice supplement to other things we're doing, but there's a lot of fluff.

Simple & engaging curriculum!
We decided to try this curriculum after striking out on other social studies curriculums. I was so pleased with the simplicity of the material as well as the engaging lessons. There’s enough variety to prevent boredom & my son has loved learning about our world!

Good content.
Ok so I love Master Books and I really wanted to love this curriculum. I like it, don't get me wrong, but I just was hoping for more. I am using it with my 5 year old and the content is right on for kindergarten/first grade. However the worksheets are definitely geared towards older kids. I guess I was hoping for more content and less worksheets. In each week there are 5 days worth of work. On the first day there is a page worth of information presented. On the second day there is about a paragraph worth of info, then each day after that is just worksheets. A coloring page, a word search, journal questions, etc. I was hoping each day we would learn a little more about what the topic of that week was, not just worksheets. I do like it. The information presented is done so very well and my five year old is soaking it all up. I just was hoping there would be a little more. We are definitely going to keep going with it. Like I said, the content is fabulous. I just wasn't expecting there to be days where there is no content and only a worksheet. We basically do the whole weeks worth of work in one day. We do it once or twice a week.

Wonderful
What a wonderful book. My 5 and 8 year old daughters have been working on My Story 1 together since it came in the mail. I love all of the different activities and most importantly how God and the bible is intertwined in every story. My oldest says that it doesnt feel like she's doing school because she's having so much fun. Thank you Masterbooks for bringing her love of learning back!

Great book
My son loves this book, he’s six. It works it’s way from towns, to city, to state, country then world. Also, it discusses the govt. jobs for each. He’s talking about what he’s learned which is great!

I'm not a huge fan, but it works for now
As a follower of Masterbook updates, I was really wanting to love this curriculum book for my 5 and 8 year old. I wanted a general overview of the world, but I find the sections are terribly choppy. And there is really no call to action to remember anything. There is no natural flow to a lesson. After a short read, you may do some copywork, coloring page, or word search. We'll keep reading through it, but we don't do a lot of the "fluff" work. The kids don't seem to mind it, but I'm not a fan. I realize that at this age many concepts taught are for exposure, but this just isn't what I was looking for.

Fail
The layout makes no sense. I honestly forgot what area we were even studying halfway through the week. It jumps all over the world instead of focusing on one continent at a time. I finally had to stop and look through each chapter and order them based on the continent being learned. I used some of the reading and activities to turn it into more of a unit study. Will have to supplement with videos and books as some of the pictures were just as bad as the coloring pages. So, had to replace some coloring pages as they didn’t even go with the continent/country that was being taught. In Africa and is says to color this picture of a cruise ship. How is that relevant? The only reason why this book wasn’t kindling is because I spent way too much money on this book.
