Sharp and stylish
Really love this purchase the wood is very dark and rich and the knives are incredibly sharp. Some of the handles did feel slightly “porous” but oiling a few times with cutting board oil has them all feeling great in the hand. Use caution if you are not used to using Chef quality/sharpness …The magnets allow for the individual blocks to be pulled off so I can bring what I need to my work area with less clutter and loose equipment. Happy with this purchase… would suggest hand wash only or handles could damage

Quality set with plenty of styles to tackle most cutting needs
Absolutely beautiful to see on my countertop. In general the knives are fairly balanced behind the bolster. They feel good in my hand, other when I'm using some of the larger handled knives with a pinch grip, my pinky likes to slip into the cut away portion of the handles. In some angles it assists in stability while others is a bit annoying feeling the somewhat sharp edges of the cutaway also my pinky gets loosely stuck. They all came sharp, at least most of the blade lengths, and pass the paper tests for vertical cuts. The duller areas on some were at the front tips and closer to the bolsters, about the same areas I am also inconsistent when using whetstones to sharpen. I have been using this set about 3 months, some knives daily others weekly or bi-monthly, and thus far haven't needed to sharpen them yet. I hand wash and dry them immediately after use, and they don't ever see a dishwasher to help dull them more rapidly. The individual blocks are handy. I take the small non serrated steak knives block to the dinner table instead of grabbing individual knives. Just like the smaller block housing utility and paring knives, I take the whole block next to the sink or bar for prepping garnishing. Since these knife blocks hold the knives straight up, they not only have a smaller footprint and take less counter space when compared to a slanted block, but also require your upper cabinets to be pretty high allowing room for you to pull a knife out of the blocks without moving the block forward. Overall I think this is a good set with a large variety of knives for most cutting needs, and when used on proper cutting surfaces, care and maintenance this set should last decades.Thank You!

The Rolls Royce of Knife Sets - Plus the Truth on Where They're Made
I know what you're thinking. Can a knife block set REALLY be worth $500? Well once you've owned this set, you know that the answer is yes. At least, if you're at all familiar with high-end knives. Here's what you need to know about this particular set.WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THIS SET:1. The knife block is gorgeous. And really, I mean "blocks." Whereas most sets come with a single block, this one comes in three distinct pieces. Which can be held together by the embedded magnets. It makes an absolute statement in your kitchen. Your guests have never seen anything like it.2. Beautiful and functional blocks. Unlike most knife blocks, this one has magnets which also can be used to hold a knife on the outside, for easy access. So you can simply reach over and grab what you need.3. Knives are impeccable. The knives, just like the block, are a work of art in themselves. You've never seen knives with handles like this, they're beautiful.4. They're a perfect angle. Most traditional Western kitchen knives have a 20 degree edge. These are 16 degrees. If you're looking to just chop through broccoli, a regular Western kitchen knife will suffice. But for finer slicing in particular, these knives have an edge which allow you to be an artist when prepping ingredients for a meal.5. They're more durable than most knives with a similar angle. You can find a set of German knives with a 17 degree bevel that work well. But the lower the angle (17 degrees vs 20), the more likely you are to get chipping. Because these knives are made with Swedish steel, using a unique forging process, you won't have to worry about the blades being ruined as quick as even the finest German knives. Cangshan achieved what most knife set companies haven't - designing knives with a 16 degree angle without sacrificing durability in the process. That is precisely why these are priced at what they are, and why you should order from this brand and not another.QUICK NOTE ABOUT SHARPENINGThere are no negatives about this set of knives. The only thing I'll mention, is what everyone should know about these or other knives with a 12 to 17 degree bevel. And that is, never use one of those counter-top knife sharpeners you see for sale online with these knives. I'm talking about the sharpeners that have two to four different grooves, and you pull the blade through a groove to sharpen it. Those are designed for Western knives, the ones with a 20 degree edge. You'll absolutely ruin these knives if you use one of those. Simply use a whetstone, which is how I sharpen all of my chef knives.CAN WE TALK ABOUT WHERE THEY'RE MADE?I couldn't help but notice that the first review ever written about this knife set had a one-star rating. And that the reviewer pointed out that they're made in China, not Sweden. Personally, I'm scratching my head over this one. Countless knife manufacturers mention that they use either 1. Steel sourced from a particular country, and/or 2. A method of forging from a particular country. Most of the time, the knives are produced in China, regardless of where the material is sourced from, or what method was used. Your phone may have been designed by American engineers, but odds are, it was produced in China. Here's where it gets more confusing.....Cangshan doesn't hide the fact that their knives are produced in China. They've never claimed that they're made in Sweden. Never mind that the brand name is Chinese. And there are Chinese characters for CANG SHAN (Cang Mountain) on the knives and the block in the product pictures. The reviewer is doing a disservice to the brand by making zero mention of the quality of the product, and basing his entire one-star review on the fact that he spent $500 on a product noticeably covered in Chinese characters. Did he think the Chinese writing translated to "Made in Sweden?" C'mon, man.MAKE YOUR NEXT MOVE YOUR BEST MOVEHopefully after reading this review, some things were made clear. You know what makes Changshan knives better than most. You know know what makes this set unique. You know that you'll own a set of knives that are beautiful, functional, and longer-lasting than most. And if you treat them well, they'll last you a lifetime. So your next move is to add the set to your shopping cart, and check out. You'll have this gorgeous set before you know it, and guests will be amazed at how nice it looks. Looking for a wedding gift, or a memorable present that will wow someone who loves to cook? You can't go wrong with this set. Best of all, they'll remember who gifted it to them every time they use one of these knives. So buy it today, you'll be thankful you did.
