5 year old activity wins
Kept my 5 year old busy while I pumped and put my 5 month old down for a nap!

Fun to dig
My grandson loves digging for stuff and loves space, so these are right up his alley. The digging is about the same as with similar items I’ve purchased. A bit of a mess is unavoidable but the time spent watching him discover the treasures inside is well worth a little cleanup!

Got 5 stones out of the earth one. Not too hard.
My son got five stones out of the Earth one including the fake blue diamond, i’m not sure how many are supposed to be inside. So be careful because when the chunks go flying, you may not realize there’s a stone in some of the pieces. At the end, I would take a hammer and break every little chunk that’s longer than about 3/4 of an inch just to be sure. It’s not terribly hard to break for my 12 year-old anyway, some of these types of things can be really hard but this one is good.

Fun activity but young kids might need help
Fun toy for my kids! They did need a little help as it was a bit challenging to get all the gems out. It was fun but messy!

Aimed at older than 5
Great toy and concept. My son was maybe a little too young for it yet.

Fun activity for inquisitive hands
My daughter loves rock collecting and is fascinated by all of the colors and shapes that can be dug up from the ground when we’re gardening. This dig kit looked right up her alley for some indoor fun. We chose Earth and although it appears small, sized somewhere between a baseball and softball, it is a fun activity to keep her hands and mind occupied. The tools included in the kit are definitely a one & done; especially the chisel that takes quite a beating. The plastic molded insert that holds Earth in place in the package doubles as a stand for chiseling. My daughter diligently worked through all of the clay until she found all 5 gems and stones. She was tickled to wash them up afterward and inspect them before adding to her collection. She’s 5 years old and was able to dig through the Earth without assistance. It’s definitely a bit easier if you use a little water spritzer to help soften the clay. While fun and educational, I do wish that the blue “diamond” was some sort of stone and not a plasticy gem. Overall, she really enjoyed it so I consider it $9.99 well spent!
