Just what I needed. I love that you can switch between straight and curved blade. And I love how it’s weighted. Worth the money.

LOVE this Lame! It works exactly like it should, but also has a strong and sturdy feel to it. The blade can be put in straight or curved, and it has a nice solid lock in detents that hold the blade firm.Overall the weigh, shape, and size make it super easy to use and brought my bread making game up a few levels. If you can only have one lame to use, this would be it!

As others are saying, this is a very high quality product and I think it will be around and still beautiful long after I'm gone. It's my first lame, so I can't compare it to others, but it definitely is sturdy and gets the job done.I have some minor complaints about it, where I think it could be improved:1) The plastic storage box it came in is incredibly flimsy, and even though there is an arrow indicating that you should slide the lid off horizontally and little guides/indentations on the sides as though that is the only way to open it, it's so thin that the lid can simply be pulled straight off (upwards, not sliding it) and it kind of falls off when handled. I wouldn't trust this box to stay together if I was going to pack it for travel. Compared to the lame which is so beautiful and sturdy, the box is wimpy, unprotective, and low quality (although the foam insert is nice).2) Occasionally, I feel like the screw-on cap that holds the blade in place is in the way. Depending on the angle of your work, it might poke into your dough. This wouldn't be an issue with a traditional lame. Mostly it's not an issue, but it could be, depending on what you are doing, especially because it's sticking out on the side of the curve, which means it's always pointing down at your dough.3) I do wish that the handle had some sculpting so that it's not just totally smooth and potentially slippery. It would be nice if there was something to grip, like some indentations for your fingers (think toothbrush handle).

Very good at slashing bread. Don’t know how well the curved blade is as I prefer the straight blade.

I make a lot of artisan bread, and I had a lame' that I got in a set of sourdough supplies. When I saw that this one was tested and recommend by America's Test Kitchen I ordered it, and it is the BEST. The design works well for my hand and allows me to change the position of the blade depending on how I intend to use it. It also comes with additional blades, so can change it out easily when the blade dulls (which doesn't happen often!). Also the screw design makes changing the blade SAFER than some other designs. I also really appreciate the storage box which keeps it safer than with a just in a sheath or stuck in a drawer. It was worth every penny!

I bought this as a gift for my bread-obsessed spouse. He loves it and claims it is vastly superior to his old one. I love anything that encourages him to bake bread!

Meh. This was top rated by America's Test Kitchen. They ususally get things right, but I don't agree with them on this one. I find this to be too heavy. That said, I do appreciate you can use the blade in either the flat or curved orientation.The plastic storage box is a plus, but yikes, it seems flimsy.I returned it.

Of course it's a great lame. It's been my steady baking accessory for years. But even more impressive, I contacted customer support because I lost the tiny washer/spacer that goes between the blade and the handle. They were very quick to mail me a couple of spacers, no charge. I love companies like that.
