I own dozens of blowguns and thousands of darts, and have done extensive testing of both. I’m here to tell you that among the currently available products, the Slock Master Viper and identical-barreled Slock Master Mamba/Bronze blowguns are the best .625 Big Bore blowguns currently available. Why? In my velocity testing of a number of 5-foot, 2-piece blowguns the Viper had the smallest velocity spread, indicating a very smooth barrel connection and performance almost identical to my favorite 5-foot, 1-piece Cold Steel blowgun that is no longer available. If you want to save some dollars or prefer a metal finish, the cheaper Mamba/Bronze blowgun (sold as simply “Slock Master Blowgun”) is identical to this Viper except for barrel color. Note that all the 5-foot .625 blowguns I’ve tested averaged the same 126 fps with the Cold Steel Mini Broadhead dart, although with varying amounts of velocity variation (obviously less variation is more consistent and better for accuracy). In addition to the smooth barrel connection, the Slock Master blowguns have a nice, wide mouthpiece that I prefer over the narrow standard mouthpiece on the Cold Steel 4-foot and 5-foot (2-piece) blowguns. It provides a broader, rounder surface that I feel makes a better seal. The Slock Master blowguns provide a very comfortable vertical pistol grip. I’ve shot well with this grip, but I actually prefer a horizontal grip and if you do too you can slide it off and shoot the blowgun as-is or add a third-party foam barrel grip. For me a grip is very important for a consistent shooting hold for consistent accuracy, but the pistol grip on this blowgun slides a little too easily for me. However, you can put a dab of silicone adhesive on the barrel and slide the grip over it to secure it in place. Just make sure the grip is right where you want it before the silicone sets. The aforementioned barrel connector has a coarser thread than the Cold Steel 5-foot, 2-piece blowgun or the Cold Steel Tim Wells Signature Series Slock Master blowgun, so requires a lot less twisting for assembly or disassembly. Despite the coarser threading, however, as noted the actual barrel connection appears to be quite smooth and seamless. Slock Master Rat Darts and Slock Master Razor Darts are included with this blowgun. The bottom line is that if you’re thinking of getting a .625 Big Bore blowgun, this one (or the near-identical Slock Master Mamba/Bronze) are the BEST. My second choice would be the Cold Steel Tim Wells Signature Series Slock Master (5-foot, 2-piece with a great mouthpiece and a nice horizontal barrel grip but more velocity variation), and my third choice would be the Cold Steel 5-foot, 2-piece (with a narrower mouthpiece I don’t like and no grip of any kind, and more velocity variation). I hope this helps you make your choice! For a detailed breakdown on all these blowguns, look for the “.625 Cold Steel & Slock Master Big Bore Blowguns Total Review”.
