Great tool! Must have and easy to use.

With high expectation we purchased two of these. On one we cleaned the ferro rod removing the outer black coating. With each strike it did produce many sparks, thus ready for our tests. Beginning simple using tissue paper stripped to smaller pieces creating a birdsnest configuration, we attempted to light it with Light My Fire. With the tool on the tissue paper or barely above it, it put out many sparks, however none of the sparks could light tissue paper. Next test we used toilet paper (TP) ripping it to shreds making a birdsnest bundle. Again Light My Fire would make many sparks, but not catch the TP on fire. For another test we used regular kitchen paper towel. Ripping it to pieces creating a birdsnest, same-same, many sparks without them lighting the papers. We tried regular ole newspaper, same results or lack there of. We were very confused. Yes scrapping ferro rod clearly produces sparks, but not fire on what should be easily flamable paper products. Final test was with a cotton balls. Pulling apart the cotton balls created more surface area and small fibers for sparks to catch on. Again the birdsnest, it took the Light My Fire many strikes producing many sparks, finally we get the cotton ball burning. Our conclusion, yes the Light My Fire does produce many sparks, however sparks were not hot enough to catch those paper products on fire. Over a few days the above tests were attempted numerous time with those papers, dried grass and the like. Each time the rod produced sparks but nothing caught on fire. Sadly, we returned both Light My Fire boxes to Amazon.

Light My Fire is my preferred go-to and simply the best auermetall firesteels you can buy! I don't mind the mischmetal rods used by the majority of other companies and what appears to be the same rods but rebranded. There is just something wonderful and magic about the harder composition of auermetall. Definitely my favorite firesteels.

Works. Not sure I will use it but it’s a cool gadget. Does make sparks.

To start I'm not going to dock a star off this product cause the ferro rod works well and the striker is very functional and makes it throw sparks very effectively as for the built in whistle to the striker maybe I got the technique wrong or the ergonomics make it weird to use but the whistle but as I said maybe the ergonomics make it weird to use it but aside from that the ferro rod works great the handles are ergonomic and the strikers handle is ergonomic as well making getting a firm grip easy. Overall I'd recommend this for a ferro rod its size its functional and easily pocketable plus the thickness of it means you shouldn't have to worry about wearing it out quickly.

Really good ferrocerium rod and striker, both the Rod and Striker have a thumb divot making it easy to hold and strike and as an added bonus there is a built-in whistle on the striker .I will buy again thanks 😊

Composition is the key to success with all "metal matches". Too much of "this", not enough of "that", will ruin your day; especially if it's a bad weather day. Most "ferro" rods on the market today, which contain approximately 20.8% iron, 41.8% cerium, about 4.4% each of praseodymium, neodymium, and magnesium, plus 24.2% lanthanum; lack enough iron & magnesium oxide. Because of this, the rods are too soft. I have found through nearly twenty years of trying all different makes and models of "Ferro Rods", that Light My Fire has the best balance of ingredients, with the best hardness to create the best shower of sparks. Just make sure your scraper is sharp.

J en ai eu et tester d'autres...Ne chercher plus : celui-ci est top ! Très facile d utilisation : pas besoin de forcer les gerbes d'étincelles sont au rdv ! Je ne dis pas que les autres marques ne sont pas bien, mais pour en avoir testés certaines (pas toutes !!!!) : celui ci a tout de suite surpassé les autres. Pour apprendre à un débutant à le manipuler ou même initier des enfants, comme il est facile d utilisation, les conditions de sécurité sont meilleures : moins de risques de glisser parce que on est obligé de frotter fort ou plusieurs fois.... Il est net, précis : fait bien le job ! J en suis ravie ! J avais acheté les autres par "économie" car je m'etais dis que ce n était pas la peine d'y mettre trop cher, mais au bout du compte : j aurai mieux fait d acheter ce type là d emblée ! C'est comme ça que j'aurai économiser du temps, de l'argent ET de l'énervement à m'acharner à faire prendre un feu qui ne prenait pas !!! 😅😊

Urunu aldiktan sonra disindaki koruma boyasini biraz kazidim ve kivilcim cikarmaya basladim. Evet fazla kivilcim cikariyor ancak bu kivilcimlar kagidi, peceteyi, yapraklari yakamiyor. Urunu almaktaki amac acil durumlarda hayatta kalmak icin ates yakmaksa acil durumda yaninizda ya ates baslatici (jel, yagli fitiller, talas cira vb.) urunler olmali ya da cebinizde bir adet cakmak bulundurmalisiniz. Internetteki videolarda da gordum ki tamamen dogal materyal kullanildigi takdirde bu urunle ates yakmak gercekten de zor. Urunu biraz daha deneyecegim. Performans alabilirsem yorumu guncellerim.

Nothing against the Ferro rods themselves - I have used them before and they work great. However, they mixed up the quantity (ordered 15, 14 showed up) and model (ordered Army, got a mix of Army and Scout) I ordered so have to go through the hassle of returning it and re-ordering. UPDATE: The seller/brand is great and reached out really quickly to help resolve the order issue even though Amazon is responsible for the gathering and shipment of the product. So the 5 stars are for the product and service, and the previous 3 star rating was in regards to Amazon's poor attention to detail.
