Very pleased with the Permatex High Temp Red 24026. I employ this to secure the set screws on AR15 low profile gas blocks, which are exposed to very high temperatures and, if they fail, would cause the entire gun to cease functioning. Most of my work is on law enforcement patrol carbines and rifles, so ensuring proper function for the people that protect all of us is VITAL. This is rated to maintain 90% of its holding strength up until 450 degrees F. However, and this is good news, it states that you must heat it to past 600 degrees F to begin to remove it...and even then it requires substantial amounts of force (think "breaker bar" or a miniature equivalent) to break the fastener loose. This protects against vibration loosening and ALSO protects the threads from corrosion via oxidation. I recommend this for any item that is being installed in a "permanent installation".....i.e something that simply cannot come loose unless a MAJOR repair or planned parts replacement is begun. AR15 gas blocks, engine bolts, etc. You can remove it via the judicious use of a blow torch and a lot of elbow grease, so this may make it unsuitable for some smaller fasteners or weaker setups (or aluminum if you want it to NOT be permanent). For fasteners that you may want to remove, use a blue variant (either Loctite, Vibra-tite [my favorite], or permatex blue).

I used this instead of another well known thread locker. I needed to fix the recoil spring guide on my Sig Sauer P938. The gun has a design flaw where the rod on the recoil spring guide unscrews from the base. As the gun fires or is carried the rod would unscrew and come completely out. I attempted to fix with another thread locker that was red but listed for heat of 300 F. I fired 60 rounds through the gun and the rod came loose. I decided to try Permatex because it had a heat rating of 450 F and it was available in the smaller amount. Before I used it I cleaned the threads of the rod and the base with hoppes #9 and sprayed the threads of the rod with Loctite Activator. I applied the Permatex and let it sit for around 30 hours. I took the gun and fired around 70 rounds and the rod did not unscrew. I field striped the gun and the rod was still tight. I will update if it comes loose but I think the problem is solved.

When it says perminant, it's not kidding! The working time is limited, so don't mess around during the process... answering one text message after application but before complete installation can cost more than you think, ask me how I know! Great proof of concept I suppose, definitely earned some respect!

I needed a high temperature thread locker but I didn't need $20 worth of it, which is the smallest size loctite sells. This product got the job done and I didn't have to buy a large container of it which would just go out of date on my shelf.

This is the high-temps stuff that works well on suspension and brake applications per vehicle specs. This stuff is just the right viscosity; thin enough for easy application, thick enough that you won't waste a lot by squeezing out too much. Bright red, easy to see even in low light. The container seals well. and is substantial enough to hold up well in the bottom of your tool box (you know that's where it will end up!). Stays fluid long for quite a while, so you don't need to rush to get things together.
