Roxy Music release an expanded edition of their ground-breaking debut album to mark its 45th anniversary. The 2CD package features rare and previously unavailable material never-heard-before outside of Roxy’s inner circle, including tracks taken from the band’s John Peel Radio Session (1972) and their BBC “In Concert” performance from Paris Theatre (1972).

Disc-2 BBC Peel Sessions are fantastic!
I enjoyed disc-2 The Peel Sessions although with most cd's sound quality was poor otherwise it's a 5 star album. For best sound try getting a record or cassette sourced from analog not digital.

2 disc version with great BBC sessions from '72
Two disc set review - disc 1; original album just as it was originally released in March of 1972 (Bob Ludwig master), disc 2; 14 tracks of four BBC sessions from 1972 (1-5 from January 4th, 6-8 from May 23rd, 9 from July 18th and 10-14 from August 3rd). Obviously these radio sessions make this (more affordable) set worth getting. We don't get to hear the super deluxe edition's Steven Wilson 5.1 remix - oh, but we do get to save over $150...This was always my favorite Roxy Music album (came out of the gates with a huge burst of energy). With these BBC recordings we get to hear a variety of performances - some earlier and less polished, some more extended, all sounding good. "2HB" is perhaps my favorite prog rock song of all time (the layered sax instrumental in its middle is absolutely timeless and placeless), so hearing a live version on disc 2 is sublime.Oh, and the little hard bound book it is presented in is top notch, including all the appropriate music credits and 22 pages of (long and detailed!) essay and photos.

Great music, terrible case.
The musical aspect of this CD set is perfect. Musically I give this set 5 stars. Roxy Music is never bad. The "cases" for the two discs are however sorely lacking. There is nothing to actually securely hold the discs in place within the set. When I opened the package after it arrived, I took the wrapping off and both discs fell out of the book onto the floor and both came out of the disc envelopes they were each in. Both discs then rolled across the floor. Luckily, neither CD was scratched when all this happened. I really wish manufacturers would go back to actual jewel cases that physically and securely held the discs within.

Great Music Never Sounded So Good!
Listening to this remaster as I write this. The music we all know and have loved for 45 years has never had more presence or detail. Thise funky assides that never come around again are all here and heard like we've never heard on mechanically-driven vinyl. Also this remastering brings up the micro dynamics I've loved at all the Roxy shows, the kind that you feel in the center of your chest and blows you back into your seat during the refrain, and ALL OF IT with an airy depth that has me hooked again on the sound of instruments in real space. IF you're a Roxy fan ( and face it: Most Americans are not) you will appreciate what has been done with this recording. I hope they give Country Life and Stranded the same treatment!Oh, and some trivia: Bowie's Ziggy Stardust was released the same day.Equipment: Early Rotel RCD 945AX, a Technics vintage SA505 with 63 watts continous connected with Kimber PBJ entry level interconnect, and Boston Acoustic A26 bookshelf speakers about 10 feet and canyed slightly inward

Buy it for the BBC Sessions
For The BBC Sessions, It's Worth The Current Price Of $16. The packaging is also nice, but surprisingly lacks the lyrics, which were included on the original lp sleeve. Country Life is my favorite Roxy Disc, but the debut has some nice moments, e.g. Virginia Plain and Re-Make/Re-Model. The original album has the same remaster by Bob Ludwig from years ago. The reason to get this is to hear the original lineup (Eno!) performing live and in studio doing alternate takes on tunes from the lp.

Great album, great condition
I've been searching for a decent copy of this vinyl. My prayers have been answer. The quality is great. Would buy from this seller again!

Avoid vinyl - Virginia Plain removed !
This Vinyl version is not as it seems, same artwork, looks like the same lp but hang on - what is the iconic track that featured on the 1972 original lp - yep VP ( can still remember where I first heard it - on the school bus ! ) So now guess the track that has been removed? Its not listed on the cover ( side 1 track 4 ) - I still played side 1 just in case it had been squeezed in (it hadn’t) so returned mine ASAP ... ps Bryan if you are out there mate ... are you aware of this ?

Roxy Music debut album comes good again!
Always one of my favourite albums from my youth and one that I have played constantly over the years. I baulked at buying the box set at over £100 but this set is brilliant value for money. I have watched the Whistle Test footage a few times over the years and it is brilliant to have those tracks on this set. If anything I think the BBC recordings are at least as good if not better in some cases than the original album tracks. The original album also sounds really clear even though it was remastered a few years ago. It is not a 2017 remaster. Highly recommended.

The first Roxy album plus some other bits and pieces
As well as the first album by Roxy Music, this also contains some of the BBC radio recordings 3 John Peel sessions, and a BBC In Concert recording from 1972. These contain various of the tracks from the first album. Also included is a small booklet (it forms part of the interior cover) with a very good overview of the early Roxy and the recording of the first album written by Richard Williams who, if my memory serves me well,, was one of the early music journalists to 'recognise' the band. There's also some good early photos of the band, some of which seem to be from the recording studio, plus a reproduction of the inside of the sleeve. All in all a good package and nowhere near as expensive as the version that was put out to celebrate the 45th aniversary of the albums release.

Roxy Music 'Deluxe' 2CD. UMC brickwalled this release. In 2018??
UMC brickwalled this. Both discs. Why? The loudness war was *supposed* to be over, didn't they notice? So, the classic Roxy Music radio sessions still sound better on old bootlegs - what kind of idiot signed this off to be 'mastered' like that?
