Review "One of the books of the year."―USA Today"Robert Galbraith has written a highly entertaining book... Even better, he has introduced an appealing protagonist in Strike, who's sure to be the star of many sequels to come.... its narrative moves forward with propulsive suspense. More important, Strike and his now-permanent assistant, Robin (playing Nora to his Nick, Salander to his Blomkvist), have become a team - a team whose further adventures the reader cannot help eagerly awaiting."―Michiko Kakutani, The New York Times"Rowling switches genres seamlessly...a gritty, absorbing tale."―People (3.5/4 stars)"[Rowling's] literary gift is on display in this work. She crafts an entertaining story [and] comes up with an ending that I'll admit I was surprised by. . . . A fun read, with a main character you can care about and one you'll want to see again in other adventures."―Washington Post"An extravagant, alien, fascinating world for its characters to explore...great pleasures."―Slate"a strong and enticing read ... It's a gripping tale set in bustling London, and the author - whether called Galbraith or Rowling - shows superb flair as a mystery writer"―Irish Examiner"It's really, really good - beautifully written with a terrific plot ... It's a terrific read, gripping, original and funny ... Please, please give us more of Robert Galbraith and Cormoran Strike. I can't wait for the next"―Richard & Judy, Daily Express About the Author Robert Galbraith is a pseudonym for J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series and The Casual Vacancy.

You'll definitely like reading this…if u r a whodunit genre lover or a starter.
This book was an impulse buy from amazon. I'm saying because "I'm not a fan of whodunit books, I rarely watch this genre movies too". So here I'm.. Finished reading the book. How do I feel about it?Well. This book gave me a reason for why I should read/like/show-interest in this genre books. The crystal clear authors intention to not waste the reader's time must be appreciated. Story starts straight-up from the beginning page. The first half of book goes on a fine pace and speeds up in latter part. The pace of the storyline is not disappointing.Though this is her debut book in whodunit genre, she cleverly employed her wits to write and played with the reader's wits. There're instances I made guesses and failed thrice on who the killer could be.Every introduced character is not wasted and are critical to solve the case nor where there any characters that were used to drag the story line. This is a compact book with no unnecessary pages. I usually hate when authors take readers deep into the characters past, Rowling was careful to not do that. Limited past stories of the characters are shown so that the readers wouldn't lose interest. This is a nice book with average story line. Worth reading.

Brilliant beginning!
Thrillers, comprising of breathless, short, sharp sentences, where make & model of guns, knives, and various acronyms associated with military dominate over humanity, are all that I read these days. This book, with its exquisitely drawn HUMAN characters, drama, dense plotting, a strangely dry-yet-attractive humour, and superbly articulated narrative, came as a shock, and a truly pleasant surprise.Yes, I freely admit that after getting used to all those "rapid readers" this one had initially come as a soporific, but slowly it caught me in its vice-like grip of beautiful language, believable characters, and the towering (hulking?) persona of Cormoran Strike, lit by the bright, efficient, charming, and extremely lovable aura of Robin.I'm simply raring to go, for the next book in the series! What about you?

A coming of age first novel from Potter to Strike - Rowling to Galbraith
I took forever with this book and I enjoyed the lazy pace - except finally at the last 20%, there was this urge to finish and to find out the details. I enjoyed the narration and the style - it reminded me of classic mysteries with the well thought-out plot gradually unfolding. The most enjoyable part for me was how I stopped at various parts in the book to figure out the clues, to think of the personalities (they weren't THAT complex after all) and to keep putting things together in my mind. The author's choice of vocabulary, too, impressed me quite a bit and I was glad to have read this off my Kindle, so I have highlighted some 60 new & fancy words (30 of whose meanings I already must have forgotten.. but never mind that)..It was funny how I kept thinking of the author - kept thinking of Rowling and the Potter association and could see that in the beginning, there was a gentler approach to being an 'adult' writer - for eg, it took awhile for both the author & the reader to come of age & allow a curse word to figure. The first F word sounded like a belligerent teen testing the feel of the word on his/her tongue, and gradually, the intensity (and frequency of the cuss-words and choice of them) also increased. However, it didn't quite deter from the plot and I must say, it might have been entirely through my own filter of seeing Rowling as a Potter author instead of Galbraith.Either way, I have enjoyed this book very much - the characters were well thought out and the complexity of the plot was overly absurd (to me, at least)!

Not for the murder mystery
The first Strike novel from the pen of Rowling is not amazing. No, I am not going to be cliched and say it is more than just amazing. I am hooked to mystery as a genre and I have read better plots and stories but what Rowling excels is making this book about the detective- Cormoran Strike and his shortfalls as well as his better qualities. Read this for insights into the members of our species than just the murder mystery.

Classic, British, Detective story
The writer has woven together a great plot & good characters; her writing takes you through the story using a contemporary style of investigation. As the story develops slowly (this is the only blemish), you suspect several characters. In the last chapter, the way all dots are joined together leading to eventual revelation is exhilarating. I am sure to read the next one from this writer. 4 stars.

Boring
The first 80% of the book is excruciatingly boring. Dunno what it is with British books describing everything in too many unnecessary details and information. Pace picks up only in the last few pages. Wouldn’t recommend

Unconvincing..
I bought this book because of Rowling and discovered Galbriath instead. Make no mistake, this book is NOT a Harry Potter. The storytelling felt way too lazy at parts, characters too flashy with little insight to their humane sides.Robin, however, is an excellent discovery..waiting to see her character unfold. The most disappointing thing about the book is, the author didn't give a hint about Strike's deductions. The ending seems forced and the culprit is absolutely unconvincing.I hope to get more "real" stories from Galbriath in the future, have't given up yet.
