Barclay Butera Living on the Coast

This book is CLASSIC early Butera style. Barclay just has a special flair and this book captures decor from and earlier era when traditionally inspired, casually elegant was all the rage.His later books got a little repetitive, but this one really hits the mark. The style may be considered passe' by some, but it's still our family favorite, even if the look is hard to recreate with today's "transitional" leanings.

I fell in love with his work when he had a house on HGTV - its been a while but it could actually have been the house this book is built around. Barclay works within a specific color palette in this book so there's a lot of red/white/blue and its about 'coastal' themes - I'm actually not working in that palette or in coastal themes and I'm still MAD for this book - there are a zillion superb pictures - you can take each picture, deconstruct it and get amazing inspirations for your own homes - everything from the mix of furniture, the art, the lamps - its JUST great. He needs to do more books. I search regularly to make sure if he does another book I find it as quickly as possible so I can order it. What a great find. I bought it sight unseen just based on what I saw him do on HGTV and I was NOT DISAPPOINTED!

Owning a small traditional coastal house, I keep an eye out for books on coastal decorating. This book does not disappoint, especially if you love rooms inspired by British Colonial and traditional style. The rooms are beautifully done. For someone who loves a coastal or nautical style done well and without being over the top, there are pages of beautifully photographed examples. While its clear these rooms were done professionally, they offer inspiration in architectural moldings and detail, color, furniture and its placement, fabrics and accessories that thoughtfully and artfully done. Destined to be a classic reference.

This book is a great coffee table book. If you love red,white and blue, this book is for you. We live near the water and I was hoping Barclay would have some other color ideas for living near water but he mostly stayed with red,white and blue. There are only a few photos of other color combos. You can still learn a lot by how he likes to 'compose' his rooms by the photos but it falls short in telling you how to pull a room together. I wouldn't buy this book if you're looking for any kind of instruction on interior design.

This book is not intended for the average cottage owner. Despite waxing poetic about the quintessential beach cottage--quaint & small-- the author/interior designer readily admits he loves the newer, commodious beach homes in order to have large spaces to decorate with his signature furniture lines. These homes are clearly McMansions, but his decorating style can inspire you to create something less grand in your own cottage. His furniture is not for wet swimsuits, sandy paws on the couch, or Popsicle drips on porch furniture!

The book arrived promptly and was in excellent condition . Such as great interior decorator . His brilliant ideas are reflected throughout the many different pieces that are incorporated in his numerous decors . A great book to have .

I absolutely love Butera's design work and this book contains most of my favorite rooms. I especially love the colorful little cottages he decorated earlier in his career, and there are plenty of photos of those. I open this book at the start of the summer to get me in a coastal cottage mood--never fails to delight. Barclay Butera, I ❤ you!

One of the most fabulous coastal interior books out in my opinion !

Visited the States and it seemed that every house we visited was influenced by this chap's interior design. A bit gastro pub by the sea for me.

This beautiful book is really 100% perfect, really a useful book, good ideas, looks some time like a Ralph Lauren home style, but this is not a disappointment ITS A MUST HAVE
