A First Book of Nature : Nicola Davies: desertcart.in: Books Review: Stunning - Extremely beautiful book. Great for gifting kids Review: I love this book. I bought it after receiving "Mark Hearld's Workbook" for Christmas and falling in love with his art and ethos. The unexpected joy was Nicola Davies' wonderful words, some of which are poetry and all of which are poetic but at the same time simple, earthy and truthfully childlike. She has absolutely captured the voice of a small child in Nature, whilst gently conveying a lot of information of the type children love (the five facts about chickens are brilliant). I'm a Primary school teacher, and I'm going to use this all the time - although I really bought it for myself! (I think it is perfect for Nursery and lower Primary: I'll use the illustrations with all ages). Also, I got my copy from the Book People at the amazing price of £4.95! For a large hardback of this quality, that's got to be one of my best-ever buys. I only hope the low price doesn't mean that the creators of this lovely book miss out in any way.

A lovely book to peruse with children at each season- great illustrations and words to go with it. The only drawback is that it is a little heavy for small hands. An adult needs to be with them to turn the pages.

Full of bright artwork and a good book to share with the kids.

Reading this book truly makes me remember the magical way that a child views the world. It's also illustrated beautifully. It's the perfect book to sit on our seasonal nature table. I can also see it being useful in prompting us to explore certain topics more in depth as we move throughout the seasons. There's even a couple lovely little "poems" about activities like "pond dipping" or building a den like the animals that really inspire me to get everyone outside to explore.
