This book is a wonderful tribute to a man whose innovations have created many sports that have become a way of life for thousands. Our family loved being a part of the Hobie Cat sailing scene for over 20 years, traveling to regattas , and national and world championships across the U.S and around the world--made possible because of the ingenuity and vision of Hobie Alter. But I did not know of the breadth of his innovations in many other sports., His legacy is alive and providing enjoyment for all who participate in these sports.Marilyn Shearer

Story of the life and times of Hobie Alter, the man that put American surfing on the map. Surfboards to sailboats to kayaks, rc model planes, sunglasses, he did it all! This is not an inexpensive book, at $60 it makes a very nice "coffee table " book. The book is loaded with many pictures and drawings. High quality print book. Worth every dollar !

I personally learned to love sailing on a Hobie 16 catamaran, so I was looking forward to reading about Hobie's life. I was not disappointed. Since I am not a surfer, I wish there was more of the book devoted to catamarans, but overall I really enjoyed reading about this entrepreneur's persistence in pursuing his dreams.

I have sailed catamarans since 1964, started with the P-cat mentioned in the book . sailed all of Hobie's boats and more. As soon as it came in read it cover to cover, Interesting how he started recommend it all the way. Ken

Hobie is on a level with Brian Wilson of Beach Boy fame when it comes to his contributing to Southern California culture during the 60s especially. Indeed what Walt Disney did for amusement parks, Hobie did for water, wind and waves.

Good biography on a fascinating person. The Steve Jobs of water sports.
