Winner, super clear lic. plates, at a great price, finally!
Just received this, the package wasn't damaged, but it looked like an "open box" item and the front glass was shattered. Since the metal sunshade sticks out and protects this, it isn't possible that it broke in shipping, likely a return that wasn't inspected. We will update when the replacement comes, but looks solid and has pretty good reviews, we'll see.UPDATE added 2 more stars:After a 2nd one being canceled in shipping because of damage, the 3rd one made it and it looks like a winner. I set it up this morning and it blows away the 1080P camera that is currently watching the road out front. I have not done any tweaking to the settings yet, just used the setup default they call "COMMON" in the settings, but will probably need some tuning for night, which I will do later tonight (update: night is great for lic plates see photos). But so far it has clearly nailed every license plate, seems as good as the $600 dollar camera I didn't buy. As others have said the web app is useless, but you will need it to adjust the settings. You must use Explorer (Chrome just sits there, won't run it) and add the add-in they want and then authorize the browser to use it after it's added. I would recommend using it only for setting up the camera and making changes later. For actual use, get a single camera edition of Blue Iris or the full version if you have a bunch of oddball cameras as I do. Attached photos compare my existing 1080P cam to this one via the remote Blue Iris web interface.

Disappointing Performance and Short Lifespan: HD View LPR Camera
I purchased the HD View LPR Camera with high hopes of improving the security system at my property. Initially, the camera delivered satisfactory performance, capturing clear images and assisting in identifying license plates. However, after a mere two years of usage, it abruptly stopped functioning altogether, leaving me greatly disappointed. One of the primary reasons I selected this camera was its license plate recognition (LPR) capability. Regrettably, the HD View LPR Camera failed to live up to its claim. The camera struggled to accurately capture license plates, even under optimal lighting conditions. The images produced were often blurry or distorted, making it nearly impossible to decipher license plate numbers accurately. This rendered the LPR feature virtually useless, defeating the purpose of investing in this particular camera model.Furthermore, an aggravating issue arose when the camera started experiencing frequent overheating problems. It became apparent that the infrared (IR) functionality was the main culprit behind the excessive heat generation. Whenever the IR was enabled, the camera's temperature would quickly rise to alarming levels. This overheating issue not only jeopardized the camera's performance but also raised concerns about potential damage or safety hazards.Despite making numerous attempts to troubleshoot the camera and seek technical assistance, I was unable to resolve these critical issues. Unfortunately, the camera's warranty had expired by the time these problems became apparent, leaving me with no viable options for repair or replacement.Considering the price I paid for this camera, I expected much better durability and functionality. Two years of service before complete failure is far from satisfactory, particularly for an item designed to enhance security. Moreover, the camera's inability to effectively capture license plates severely undermines its usefulness in practical applications. In conclusion, the HD View LPR Camera was a major disappointment. Its subpar license plate recognition capability and the persistent overheating issues made it an unreliable and impractical choice. I strongly advise against investing in this camera model, as it does not provide the longevity, performance, or value one would expect from such a product.

This camera barely classifies as license plate camera.... Should not be listed as one.
first only one camera, out of 2 orders worked... (the 1st had no reset button.). the second works but is far from the license plate camera it described to be. (and I'm not talking about the lack of LPR because the description plainly states this camera has no LPR AI)But it also falls short of what any license plate camera should do easy.... capture cars so you can read the license plate. This camera with lots of time spent can capture readable license plates in the video using the optical zoom in playback, so it barely classifies as a license plate camera. But it's firmware AI is primarily geared toward facial recognition, so it should be listed as a facial recognition camera. (Which it is, and would do an ok job, or should I say better job at then making license plates readable.) The reason for the 2 stars.I has many drawbacks that prevent it from actually being a good license plate camera as it is listed in the description.First and foremost it has no AI for fast moving objects.... so fully zoomed with only road visible the AI can only recognize a vehicle up to about 15mh..... (with most neighborhoods having 35mph speed limits and cars generally going a few miles over the vehicle AI is pretty useless for identifying a vehicle with only the road in frame which a license plate camera should be able to do easy.)I might note it does a great job of identifying people with it zoomed to the point only the road is in frame... SO the person AI works well and has many options, including facial recognition. But that is mute since it is listed as a license plate camera.Back to the license plate limitations of the camera... If you zoom out to where the road is only a 1/4 of the frame it gives the vehicle more time in frame and the vehicle AI can then identify a car or pick up as a vehicle.. It will take a snapshot but now the plate is to small for a actual license plate camera. so the snap shot is again useless other than to give a timestamp where you can look in the video where optical zoom can be used to read the plate. But again the snap shot feature will still miss vehicles over about 18mph.... So the snap shots are not very reliable.Which brings us to the line crossing AI of the camera. Surely, since this is supposed to be a license plate camera, by setting a line crossing trip wire in the camera we can get accurate snap shots of a vehicle when it crosses the line.Again... it falls shot, and only kind of does the job. First anything over about 30mph may not trip the trip wire line at all. (it is spotty, some time it will..... but the majority it will not.) Second, there is a delay setting in the camera interface that cannot go below 2 seconds. (which is good, because that time is used by the AI to make evaluations ...) But it appears the video feed does not stop during that time. So again all but vehicles uder a very generous 20mph will be out of the snapshot by the time it takes it.)Lastly at night, because the picture has to be darker on all license plate camera to prevent the the IR blinding of the plate... The AI in the camera rarely actually correctly identifies a vehicle correctly. However it does identify about half the vehicles as people and takes a snapshot identifying the object as a person..Earlier you read me say it identified pick up trucks and cars. Incase you missed the implication there, statement brings us to the last very weak point of this camera being a license plate camera. It seems to identify slow moving passenger vehicles. However it will not identify a fedex, UPS, or u-haul type of truck, or a schoolbus as a vehicle. SO if a u-haul empties your house it would not trigger a vehicle alarm, or snapshot. This camera should be avoided if you are looking to capture snap shots of vehicles over 20mph at best.... And then only if you want to go through lots of fine tuning, and have an extremely good nvr and large band width.I tried this camera with my existing nvr, and then went a head a purchased from this same seller their OEM Dahua NVR4432-I SMD+ AI NVR which I was hoping would help this camera perform up to it's description with all of the nvr AI capability. Because I really wanted to like this camera. But sadly, it did not help the license plate camera perform any better..... But the OEM Dahua NVR4432-I SMD+ AI NVR from this seller is Great... and allowed even my cheaper cameras to perform what this camera could not.Sadly, even though I wanted to like this camera... It just falls way short of it's description....After already returning the first one that was defective, and waiting for the OEM Dahua NVR4432-I SMD+ AI NVR to arrive to see if it would help this camera perform. I will not be returning the camera, but I'm disappointed enough in this license plate camera that I'll be donating it to the local good will and buying another license plate camera.I would recommend anybody looking for a license plate camera to skip this one, and look for one with AI for fast moving objects as well as AI for vehicles. (There are a couple on amazon in the same price point as this one..... so look around and compare specs.. also a 35x optical zoom would probably be a better option for most people. Although the 22x would have been enough for my application had the camera performed up to it's description)
